First off, don't do 12's. Do 10's. Its a much tighter thump. 12's are too sloppy for my ears.
If you don't want rattling, I recommend Dynomat everywhere in your car.
As for brands... my personal favorite is Diamond Audio.
Amps? I like Directed electronics.

Go with whatever size you like, I like 12's and I have 2 Polk 12" subs in my car, I don't have much rattling at all. And after I finish building my sub box and Dynamat my truck, it wont rattle at all. As far as an amp, I'm using a Kenwood 1800W mono amp. Powers my subs nicely and allows my deck to control them. I'm pretty happy with them. And for your question about kickers? I would say go for them I have kicker 6x9's in my rear deck and they couldn't be nicer.

Quick SE im going to have to disagree with you with you on this one. 2 quality 12’s in a small sealed box will sound great. The problem is that most the 12’s out there are crappy are pushers. I find it’s hard to hit certain low notes with 10’s, not saying it’s impossible but more difficult.

Goon get dynomat for your car! This by far is one of the best upgrades I have made for my car. Any sub in a solara overtime will cause rattle, especially in the trunk and back rear deck.

x2 on polk. I have a single 12 that came in a box w/a memphis monoblock and yeah.. no rattles BUT you can't share the bass with other people.

I have a 12" MTX with Infiniti amp.
No rattle at all, except if I get ice and snow on the trunk, it makes the ice and snow shaking and rattle on the trunk

Maybe if I had more powerfull audio setup i would rattle, but it's stupid, it already hurt my ears.

perfectly said.
I have 2 10s and couldn't be happier. right now my setup is 2 10inch mtxs wtih 500 watts rsm each. I used to have Diamond Audio D3s before I sold them. Those were amazing as well. I tried out 2 12s before, yes it's a lot more bass, but you don't get that tight response feeling. and I had the same setup, just a lil sub box, nothing molded into my trunk.
I'm a lot happier with my two 10s than with my previous two 12s.

We all have opinions.
No doubt, the 12's will give you more bass (volume), but if you do a side by side comparison, you'll notice the 10's have a much sharper response.
Goon said he wanted a "clean hit". 10's will hit much cleaner than a 12 will any day.
If you want more bass, go with 12s. Want even more bass? Go with 15s. Want a sharp hit? Can't go wrong with a 10.

i still think a great 12 will perform as well or flat outperform two 10s anyday. it just makes sense that 10s will hit more precise than a 12. But with the right box, one 12 will do all you want it to. I have a 12" Type-R in a ported MTX Bass slammer box and it hits so clean and hard im glad i didn't get 10s.

From my experience, Ive heard 2 10" RF HX2's (500rms each) pushed by 2400watt amp and mine hits just as hard and clean (listened to rage against the machine to dj tiesto to ugk) for a third of the price and half the space. just my $0.02

I have 2 12's... they hit so deep... amazing... if you want punch get 10's.. 12's for deep base

If you drop good money on subs, do yourself a favor and have a custom box made... the box makes the subs in some instances

I agree on that, the box does a whole lot. my buddy has a custom box in the trunk of his range rover.. damn does it hurt when you sit in there, really clean bass though too.
