I am trying to wire in a stereo. I have the power on, ACC, and the amp, but I can't get any sound thru the speakers. I can barely hear them..any suggestions?

Check and recheck all your wiring, and the settings on the amp. Check your gain setting on the amp and any loudness setting the head unit may have. More details would help us help you. Good Luck.

I got it..evidently I had to have all the speaker wires hooked up - I was just testing one speaker. Toyota makes it difficult by having only one ground wire for all the speakers too. That took me a minute to figure out.

I have sound and everything, but I can't go above Volume 4 without the speakers overloading..any suggestions?

Did your car have the factory JBL system in it? If it does, you have to disconnect and bypass the JBL amplifier....otherwise it won't work as it should.

do you know why the amp won't work? The stereo that was stolen (a sony) I installed and had the amp hooked up. This new one is a sony too, and I have the amp hooked up. I am going to try hooking the amp up to the 7.5amp wire and see if that makes a difference. I wonder if this new sony is puting too much power out to the amp. That is what it sounds like.

looking at the wiring diagram I might have just found my prob. I think I might not have powered the amp correctly. I'll let you know

I'm a little confused by what you mean by hooking up a 7.5 amp wire to your amp.

Even if your sony h/u had high-volt preouts, your amplifier should handle it just fine, just make sure you set it accordingly. Also, check your gains.

Also, speaker distortion can be the result of many many factors. ie. blown speaker, bad amp, sending audio frequencies to a speaker that it can't handle, etc.

I have a wiring diagram for the factory JBL+Amp stereo system. I need to double check the wiring, but there are a few wires that are not accounted for in the wiring diagram - the dim wire and a few others.
But, as far as I know everything is hooked up identically to the other Sony hu. But, something isn't quite right with the volume. From volume setting 0 to volume setting 1 there is a substantial gain in volume. Then, past 3 it is distorted/overloaded. I'll let you know what I find out when I go thru the wires again.
From the wiring diagram, you a line from the 20amp fuse labeled +B, and you have a line from the 7.5amp fuse labeled ACC in, and you have a line coming from the hu labled Amp On.

I think you're supposed to bypass the factory JBL Amp all together, if i'm reading this post correctly. Hence why there should be two wiring harnesses, one set for the speakers and the other set for battery, 12v, dimmer, ect.

Whoa, wait. If you are trying to go through the factory amp you really shouldn't bypass all of that crap.

no, I am not bypassing the amp.. Here is the wiring diagram. As I have said, I had it working just fine with the previous sony hu.



I have all the wires accounted for except for a white with thin green stripe that is not in the shrouded bundle. So, outside of the shrouded wires I have the red for the amp, the two power wires, the ground, and the white with a green stripe one. I can't figure what that one is for. The white one is not on the diagram

I tracked down my old sony hu wiring diagram and it is the same. I must have something hooked up incorrectly. I'll check the ground tomorrow
