Do I need a big 3? H/O Alternator??

Hey so i'm a complete car audio noob.

I got a deck, 1200 watt hifonics amp for my subs, and a yellowtop battery.

When i'm driving, my lights dim when the bass slaps. Sometimes the deck even shuts off for a half sec.

When the car is off, everything is just fine I can get as loud as I want.

So i'm assuming my alternator is not powerful enough to keep up with my system right now. What are my options??

I've heard I could get a cap, a new alternator, and I thought of a big 3 upgrade all by myself. Problem is I really have no idea what i'm talking about can someone help?

big 3 first. From what I've read in the past, that can usually cure the dimming. I don't think a higher amp alternator would really do any good if it still has to deal with the resistance of the smaller wires.

Alright well my problem actually turned out to be loose connection to my battery terminal. 8)

But i've decided to do a big 3 when I upgrade my speakers anyways.

So... does anybody have some info as to what that actually entails? What kinda parts do I need? Can I do it myself?

Just an FYI here. If you dont want to do the big 3, usually a Capacitor will cure this issue.
