Hey there peeps! I'm a new Solara owner. I've got a 2002 Solara inline-4 engine, my grandmother recently passed away and I managed to snag it from her estate for $5000. It's got 38K miles on it, which apparently is like nothing. The only down side is although she never drove it much she also didn't get it serviced much either. Just a basic oil change now and again. But really the car and engine are in great shape. I'm somewhat of a mechanic myself, I just got done with a 1987 Honda CRX LS/VTEC swap, and so I'm pretty sure I've got the know how to keep this car going strong.

I had to throw new tires on it, I'm pretty sure my grandmother kept the original tires on, but since she never had the wheel lock key, she never got the tires rotated, or properly aligned. So the very first order of business for the car was spending $700 on tires, wheel lock removal, new wheel locks, and a proper alignment. I got the good year assurance comfortreads; I was looking for the quietest tires I can find, after driving a '87 CRX that’s tricked out, it will be nice to have a smooth quiet, fogey car for my commutes.

Next order of business will be to snag one of those Pioneer AVIC-D3 head units, and throw my Sirius radio subscription into that car too. Nothing like stern in the morning! The radio sounds okay stock but I'll probably throw in a small dual 10-inch subwoofer/amp set-up in the car as well.

After that I'll probably get one of those auto-adjusting windshield mirrors, the ones that tell what direction your heading and what temp it is outside as well as making it so I never have to adjust it again. They aren't too expensive to buy, the installation might be tricky, but I'm confident it can be done.

All in all It seems like a very nice ride, and I'm looking foreword to a quiet, commute in a car that I never have to worry about if it will start or not, Souping up a car is al well and good, but driving with a stiff suspension every day hurts my back!

38k on a gen 1.5 solara is unheard of. you lucky guy.
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

well actually when I got the car it only had 37,452 miles on it, but since I have a 40-mile a day commute, and I driven it to Sacramento and back twice I've loaded a few extra miles on it. now it's got 38,012 miles on it.

Oh by the way I live in Newark, CA thats in the San Francisco Bay Area, NorCal, near San Jose.

I was thinking turbo on my CRX but not on the Solara, it's too big and heavy for any real thrust-to-wheight ratio advantages. No I just want to have a nice comfortable ride. I was going to buy a BMW 3 series before this car fell on my lap! So thats sort of where I'm coming from.

Sounds like a nice project man, Is it an automatic or 5spd? Sorry to hear about your grandmothers passing, I know that can be rough.

oh yeah it's a automatic!!!!!!!!!!!! It's great really I've got:

1972 Honda CB750K1 - Manaul
2000 Suzuki Katana 750 - Manual
2004 Kawasaki Ninja 250 - Manual
1987 Honda CRX si - Manual
1999 Saturn SL2 - Manual

And now, my sixth vehicle, finally is a freakin automatic!!!!!! It's about time someone other than me has to do the shifting when I drive!!! My commutes are so much more pleasent!
