Hi, i just signed up. I have an 05 Solara SLE 4 cyl. It's sitting in my garage driven once or twice a month, with 72K mile. The car is stock, and I would like to pump it up suspension/horsepowrwise, and would like to come up with a sweet ride.Any suggestions? should I go supercharger or turbo? I'd like to hit 220+ HP, and do it right,Time is no object, the final final is. It still has the stock 16" wheels/suspension. I would like to go all out.Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. I live in Southern Califorina, and would like some local contacts to help me build my yet to be visualized dream.

Hi and welcome! It is hard to go to 220hp with a 4 cyl as there is no supercharger or commercialized turbo kit for the car. Correct me if I'm wrong. For the suspension, change the springs+struts at the same time (if you're not going for coilovers, which are the best drop option but expensive) so you won't have to do it again, since it is hard to reach the rear struts. As far as I know, Eibach, TRD and Tein are the best lowering springs for Solaras and Tokico, Bilstein (TRD) and KYB for the best struts.

Thanks for the great tips, I really appreciate them. My Solara concept is yet to be visualized, so I'll post befores and afters. I wouldn't mind modifying/rebuilding/replacing the engine to achieve the HP . I have all the time in the world, and the Solara isn't my only car so it can be made into a long term project. Back in the day, and I'm dating myself, I had a Chevy Vega, replaced the 4 cyl with a 5.7 V8 with a blower.At age 47, I love my Solara, and would like to have a unique ride. Is there any chance you are/were Australian?
Like I mentioned above, the Solara shares it's engine with the Scion tC.
You should be able to find a lot of aftermarket power adders.
Also, a member on here "tacti" has or had a turbo 2.4 Gen 2.
Do a search for pics and info on that car.

Hi, sorry M8 I'm American, I do appreciate the tips, I will look into the scion for leads. I might modify/rebuild my engine to get the horses going.It's a design in progess still to be conceptualized. I will post before and afters once I have the thought to paper. Cheers

as for the 2.4l. even if you find parts from the scion tc, some parts might not fit. The Tc's come with a supercharger but they do not fit the gen2 lara's. Other option would be build a custom turbo kit with internal work done. Anything is possible with time and patience, solara's are difficult cars to work with and they will make you happy at the end. Happy modding! keep us updated on anything you do or if you have any questions most of the guys here are pretty good with tips to mods.

the gen2 solara platform has always been the hardest to find aftermarket support, the gen1's are way easier to pump up the numbers since they do have charger to fit and most of the things you might need to get up to 300+whp

Thank you very much for the insight. I'm very new to the Solara, and i do agree whatever I put in it will ultimately make me happy.Now you gotme thinking I might need two, a gen 1 and the gen 2 I have. I will psot when I have post worthy material.up to now it's all stock down to the 16" wheels and JBL system. I feel an entire inside out lara trip looming on the horizon.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate the list. I think I might do suspension and add ons from the list, and start looking into buying another , perhaps a gen1. Love the Solaras, would really enjoy building one up to v6-8 muscle.
