8/13: Elmhurst Illinois Show

Postby PhreakdOut » Sun Jul 30, 2006 6:29 am

I've been trying to stir something up with the ScionLife crew for a combined Saturday night event. Raul, their Chicago chapter president, is the one pulling things together for this show. So I've been keeping an eye on this thread: http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=109575&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=125

Mike C., if you don't mind taking the lead on the Saturday event, I'd greatly appreciate it. If possible, see if you can pull some other car groups together for a gathering. Great Lakes Dragway would be awesome. (Keep in mind this may be intimidating to some people. Stick to the Scion or Corolla guys if you're arranging a meet at the drag strip. LOL I'd hate to meet up there against Supras.) I'll keep pushing ScionLife if we can get a plan together. I have a thread in ToyotaNation, but they seem lame in getting meets off the ground. Try Matrix Owners clubs, Celicas, MR2s, etc...

Some other updates:
They have arranged for a big tent to provide some heat relief. I imagine there will be some food and drink. I recommend you pack a cooler just in case. I'll make sure to have plenty extra anyway. I'm sure Mike C's trunk mod will be available as well. (Shhh)

The show classes are to remain the same. In our case, Best Solara 1st, 2nd and 3rd places trophies. Don't stress out about the "show" portion of this. Just show up to represent and hang out with your buddies. Trust me, my front end and hood are NOT in show condition but I'm going in for the fun of it. A clean stock Solara can easily beat me. As for competing against Reggie, well, there's always 2nd and 3rd place. LOL Best of luck Reggie!! I think Tacti is sprinting for a trophy this year! If we can get Mr. ArcticFrost to show up, this will be hell on the judges.

The GLD sched says "Street Car Brawl 3pm-11pm" for Aug 12th. That'a promising but I emailed the manager to be sure. They have these cute terms for stuff and I was once turned away because they decided to have "Slicks Only" racing on a Saturday morning without notice. If we're leading the gang up there I want to be sure we can get on the track.

Racing sounds cool. (Maybe difficult to organize?) I'm completely open. Mike, feel free to edit my original post and add a poll for voting on Sat night ideas.

Even just meeting up at a D&B or other novel establishment would be great. I'd caution against downtown meeting places where it may be difficult to gather cars in a common area. Meeting up at one of the Oasis on the interstate or in a forest preserve would be good meeting spots. Then provide a simple route to a local destination. It's easy to get cut off or seperated going through the toll booths.

I know Tacti wanted to head downtown. I'm all for that but perhaps a late night cruise would be good for that. (After dinner) We can wing it there.

Since the group will center around Elmhurst (I know Reggie is staying there), perhaps we should focus on meeting places nearby. Any ideas. We should lock down an idea pretty soon.

Well to add to the list of ideas - i was thinking since we all just would love to do a group ride - we can meet up at streets of woofield in the evening on Sat - eat/drink there - they've got a big parking lot and they are right off the highway (and its pretty much next to the hooters we met at last yr)

then we can make a ride to lakeshore at night - take a 15 min detour to park by the lake (any exit like recreation dr. etc)

and then drive back or go home..

how does that sound?

The Scion boyz are getting tickets to the Chicago Fire (Soccer) game on Saturday night. (See link) Raul, the guy organizing the show, is taking count on who would like to attend.

They will be tailgating before the match and probably cruising afterwards. (Lake Shore?) So far, they have 21 or 22 listed in their roll call.

Does this sound interesting? If so, we need to act fast. Let me know and I'll get a hold of Raul.

Here's the thread to their event:

I doubt the Fire will sell out, but if you want to get in with the Scion guys I guess that makes sense. Are they getting us free tix for each Toyota? If not I'm guessing we'll end up elsewhere.

Looks like the keg will get more of a workout this year!

so which one are we doing?

A) streets of woodfield?
B) soccer game?

i'm more into our own thing. i'd rather hang out and talk about solara's and drive in a group than watch a soccer game.

other ppl who are coming plz chime in on wha you want to do.

I could care less about soccer. I guess I'm a redneck at heart. It must be a Scion thing. LOL I agree ... I'm there to see you guys and talk cars. (In that order)

In light of the recent heat wave, I'm not anxious to see my E/T at GLD. I'll wait till cooler weather.

My vote is to meet up at Woodfield. I'll put a poll up for this. If you vote for other, please add a suggestion.

We are a fickle crowd, huh? From dragstip to soccer game to mall? Better decide soon or we'll end up chatting on MSN. :P I'm good with about anything. Whatever the crowd prefers.

btw, no answer from GLD's manager yet. I'll ring them tomorrow.
