mod list

Postby 2000gs300 » Wed May 11, 2005 9:42 am

The interior of the 2001 Solara, as some of the CL folks have pointed out, exceeds our expectation. It appears to be smooth milky tan, lighter than the interior of our 2000gs300.

Wind noise in the lara is impressively much less than our 2004 325i convertible, especially from 50-70mph.

So here's the mod list planned by our very novice car modding experience. Please feel free to chime in and help to complete.

1. leopard furry steering wrap
2. HID
3. TRD supercharger
4. ?? Nos, or brake upgrade? We are naively praying the mod parasite will perish after #3.

For TRD supercharger for this 01 Solara automatic transmission, we are getting some offers ranging from 3000 to 3200 kit and installed by: a well known toyota dealership, and a friend's shop which helped to correct and fine tune the previous supercharge setting on his Navigator.
How fair do you guys think the price offers are? Are there hidden fees?

$3000 - $3200 is too much for the S/C + install unless you insist on a new one. Used ones go for around $1500 give or take and installation should be around 8 hours labor depending on how experienced the mechanic is.

Don't know how much research you did, but the S/C @ 4psi w/no other engine mods does not "wake up" the autos as much as the manuals so dropping $3k on it may give you buyers remorse.

Nitrous alone is not a bad idea. S/C + nitrous is not good for stock internals.

with the supercharger i would boost the 6lb pulley cuz the stock one boosts 4lbs, 6lb is fine with stock internals, might want to upgrade the fuel lines as well....

update- finally getting ready to have the HID ordered. First time modding, we thought ordering parts would be as easy as drive through. But the reality has not been nearly as illusive.

Read several horror storry about knock sensor not working and the car would basically feel like it's dragging , ready to stall :o :o :o :o
We still very much want the supercharged wooosh or turbo charged psssst.

If any member here's willing to part out the TRD supercharger, please let us know. TIA.

trd supercharger

Postby trd4life » Mon May 30, 2005 9:27 pm

I suggest a set of eibach springs and tokico struts to start off with. TRD discontinued the supercharger so you better find one fast!

upgrade suspension for sure, full adjustable coilovers if you've got the money. second only to the sound system, the best mod ive done to my car is the suspension.

Do the supercharger you won't be disappointed. And stay at the stock boost unless you decide to do more mods. You can buy one new for around $2500 and do the install yourself with some friends and save $700. I agree with the others on the suspension mods. You can use the $700 you saved on that. A strut/spring combo will do you fine.
