KYB GR-2 SHOCKS OR TOKICO HP STRUTS

Postby SLOW-ARA » Sat Jul 23, 2005 5:24 pm

Whats up people im a newbie on this forum and just started to invest some money in my solara. I just purchased some tien lowering springs and debating whether to get Tokico hp struts or some Kyb gr-2 shocks. I was wondering if the kyb are just as good as the tokico or are the tokicos noticeably better. I know a lot of people on this forum have the tokico setup, but does anyone have the kyb's? Can the kyb gr-2's handle the lowering height of the tiens? If someone could help a brother in need i would appreciate it.

alkimo... I've noticed you are basically the only one on this forum with the kyb setup (correct me if im wrong). Have you driven in a solara with tein/tokico, if you have comparing it to yours how would you say they compare. I can't decide whether to go for the kyb that people say "stay away from" or the tokicos that people say "makes a loud clanking noise." Did you install your kybs yourself or professionally?

i have kyb gr2's with the trd eiback setup. I had it professionally installed and its a good setup .. but if you want something thats more towards hard cornering etc go for the tein coilover damper, jic , k sport , d2.

I like my setup but just dont expect to handle like its on rails. Its great for everyday driving tho.

a couple others on here have kyb but not nearly as many as those with tokicos...

i went with kyb because that's all that ebay had to offer at the time, if i could do it all over again i would probably go with the majority and choose tokico...

i have not riden in a car with tein/tokico setup so i can't really compare...

i had a shop install them for me...

as far as the springs are concerned, there are numerous threads on here about which is better so just run a search and you'll find what you need...

I have KYB / Intrax on my Solara. I put KYBs on my mother's Camry. I wouldn't recommend KYBs with a dropped car, base on my experience. If you're at stock ride height, they are a bit better than factory. Just my .02. BTW, did the work myself, but I have the education for it, and work in a shop.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

I just installed the tein/tociko combo on my car. It works great and does not rattle. And My buddy has kybs on his nissan 240sx. He likes them but he autocrosses so he is switching to tein coilovers soon. I went with tokicos cause that seems to be the most trusting brand people reccomend on this site.

I want to do it right this time and not be disappointed witht the outcome. I guess i should get in contact with Jack, i saw his named mentioned on a thread somewhere... thanks again everyones .02 it def. helped me out
