Mechanic's Lowering Warning.

I have teins and tocikos. It does ride a little stiffer. But its still a smooth ride. As time goes on when i try to rememember how smooth the stock suspension is. I cant hardly tell anymore. Id say do it and in 6 months have you mechanic take it for a drive. I think he would be impressed.

I was thinking about going teins with tokico... But Ive heard tokico wasnt stiff enough to be stiff. Like it was still bouncy.. Is that true?

this might sound crazy but my car has coilovers, both front and rear swaybars with rims, and my gf's camry has nothing but a TRD rear swaybar and well.... love her suspension! lol, I can actually sleep without taking a beating

I wouldnt lower it for one reason only. The front two valences would get scraped up like a mutha.

I think the Eibach/Tokico combo is the best between performance and comfort. Plus if you do get rims and you're not lowered you're going to look jacked up like a SUV. Jon.

Lowered made the car feel so much better when i first got it, but now I think im use to it already so I dont feel any real difference. I can tell the ride quality is lessened (ie. can feel alot of bumps now) but it does feel like it can handle a lot smoother. I live in MA too maybe I might let u test out my car haha.

I lowered my avalon....though it doesn't look lowered at all HAHHA!!

anywyas the handling is much better, not so much like a range rover anymoer. The ride from the cockpit seems lower and feels closer to the ground.

Its smooth when on smooth roads and when I go over bumps, I definitly feel it. I lowered it first for 2 weeks, then decided to go back to stock. Then after one month, I changed it back.

I thought, theres no way to rid of the bumps, so might as well lower it. Good tires will help too. But yeah pot holes here in MA do suck.

When I first go my new tires on, I hit a f*in pothole 3 days later. Now I have a bubble on two of the tires. Thinking to myself, damn I should've gotten the road warrenty.

I'm using KYB-GR2 and Vogtland springs.

I agree with Jon. When I bought my TRD Stage 3 setup, TRD wasn't supplying the Bilstein struts so they recommended the Tokicos to go with the Eibach springs. I think that lowering setup is the softest and most comfortable but still offers decent performance. When I had that setup, I never had problems with the car bottoming out, clunking noises or uneven tire wear.

Your mechanic is just trying to cover his butt. It is very common with other platforms to have ride quality issues, noises and uneven tire wear requiring a camber kit. He doesn't want to put something on and then have you not happy with it. Lots of people blame the mechanic or question if they did something wrong because they envisioned their car handling like an exotic and still having the comfort of the stock ride... -JoeB

I hear bilsteins are pretty stiff, but thier discontinued so no need to beat a dead horse. I also have numerous friends who got dropped on coilovers who want to go back to stock...coils make it ALOT stiffer than stock, probably uncomfortably so, depending on the car, dampening setting, and the drivers own feeling.

I really do not want to let my ride quality suffer for a drop. I will really have to think about this one over the winter. I really enjoy my smooth ride on the Solara.

I had a custom spring set made for me by CM Motorsports that dropped my car 2". Looks really nice and handles awsome!

I dont want to make a new topic so I'll add to this one. My car REALLY feels the road. Its getting to the point where I'm getting nervous going over speed bumps because I usually hear something hit it, even though I go at an angle and very slowly.

Would changing my shocks help? I'm wanting to get a little smoother ride. What shocks do you suggest or should I just scrap the shock/spring upgrade and pickup a coilover set?

I think my car still rides really smooth with is lowered. Its smoother than my camaro's stock suspension. But that car is a sports car so that comes with the territory. Im thinking about getting trd sway bars in help the handling more. That will probably change it some more. I would just go ahead and do it. I dont think you will regret it.
