Seafoam is a good idea. Here are a few things you can do that'll help

Ignition system - This can help you restore some power that is lost over time. A few things to look at in this sytem
New spark plugs: Go one range cooler if you have any other mods, otherwise, it's not going to be any help.
New wires and caps: Old ones tend to wear and not be as efficient.

Flush of engine and tranny oils - This will keep your car running stronger, longer.

There are several other things but those are a few cheap and easy things to do. If you don't have a CAI, goto an autoparts store and buy a cheap air filter for your car and replace your old one, I'm certain it's NASTY! When they do the oil flush make sure that they replace the oil filter. Hope this helps!

Is that always a good thing for those of us who drive in cold climates, i.e. want hot air from the vents ASAP after starting?

I guess since you live in Chicago it snows in the winter right? It most likely isn't necessary for you since it snows where you live. . . haha the coldest it gets in San Jose, CA is like 38 degrees
