that is the culprit...

according to the guys who dynoed they also didnt do our autos right, losing another 8%... ohh well so my guesses woulda been right on if they did it right.

Can you tell me what you mean by "Rustang"?
Also 8% in addition to the 24%.
Sorry,just confused by the numbers.
:o Overall 32% loss :o
I just might have to sell my auto and go manual.

okay.. to shorten and explain..

rustang is the nickname for a guess what??? MUSTANG dyno

to also give you the answer to the next question it was still 24% TOTAL IE if they actually dynoed the autos right they would have netted about 165whp (10 gain or near 8 percent) leaving it at around a 18-20% loss max.

ohh well slushboxes still suck.

i dont' think that possible with 165 whp. chris's dyno at 155 hp with i think greddy exhaust, cold intake and got those numbers. what was the tq on the dyno? i think there were posts of someone v6 solara that dyno at 165 around that area with 5spd. quit complaining that they got 24% loss. you don't even have a v6 so why do you care? this car is just a poor man sc300. of course if you put the right amount of money you can take this car and have alot more power. but the majority of solara guy owners don't or not willing to pay to play.

You have to remember too ways they are dyno and temperature makes a difference too can alter number.. So no such thing as same numbers on all cars.

loss to tranny

Postby Sentinel » Sun Nov 13, 2005 8:40 pm

You get a corrected dyno number, don't you? (Sea level, std. temp & humidity)
In any case: What kind of loss does the 5-spd have?

why did you camry finally take it toll? what does dumping several thousand dollars into a kit have to do with performance? dont' try to go off track and btw this is my expensive taste of hobby. and yes i have mod my solara beyond then what these people on this board have. Or the matter of fact that would ever spend that much of money on a fwd car. good luck with what you do with you car. :bday:

lets keep this on topic guys

The auto tranny is horrible for transfering power. To improve this, you could have the tranny reworked and/or upgraded stall/torque converter. Level10 makes excellent custom upgrades, but you'll have to pay.

The manuals have around 12-13% drivetrain loss, whereas the autos have 25+% loss.

With my S/C, exhaust and KN filter I put down 195 (Corrected) FWHP.

Its sad but the solara is not a mod friendly car, we knew this going into this discussion. With that being said, I still love my SC, and my car is still fast, regardless of what the dyno says.
