Wiring A/F ratio Gauge

Wiring A/F ratio Gauge

Can anyone tell me how to properly wiring an air fuel ratio gauge, without setting off the O2 sensor? I installed mine and it made my front bank O2 sensor to malfunction. I know that indiglo solara told me there was a specific way of doing it. Now I bought another one and do not wish to mess this one up to.

Does the Solara use a 4-wire O2 sensor? Usually just tap the blue wire from the O2 for an Auto Meter AF gauge. That's the sender wire. You are supposed to TAP this, not cut it.

Also just FYI, Auto Meter AF gauge does not tell you anything usefull. The stock O2 sensor is whats known as a narrowband O2 sensor. It only reads lean or rich and switches back between the two. So your Auto Meter guage is just going to light up and go back and forth as you drive. It will probably just sit on lean when at idle.

If are using this gauge to monitor your AF for tuning, or engine safety purposes, then I would suggest getting a wideband AF gauge. A wideband sensor can read the actual ratio (11:1, 14.7:1, etc) and give you the most accurate reading for tuning and other purposes.

If you want a gauge with pretty lights and looks cool, and that all you want to use it for, then by all means, keep the Auto Meter and hook it up.

You can monitor the A/f with the S-AFC. Usually wideband's are quite expensive, not really worth it unless youre gonna do some serious tuning, but theres bunch on www.urdusa.com
