so, i have the 17X8 revos right now and i am thinking about going to 18 cuz the 17s look kinda small. i love to drive fast and race, so i am wondering if 18 will have enough tread to take the wear and tear. i have the trd lowering kit just to let you know?
which setup do u guys think would be better?

larger, heavier wheel = slightly slower acceleration...If you are into racing, i would keep it lightweight.
99 DWP SEV6 5spd 6.5psi+Meth, Tein+Tokico, EricSol+Brembos+EBC, OBX Headers+OBX 3" Exhaust, Supra MAF & 330cc, Spec 2+, Fidanza, TRD lip kit, Injen+Ext, Optima Red, Infinity 60.5+693.7i, 2 Kappa Perfect 12 VQ's+iPod+JVC DVD...etc

Absolutely not true.

18's, with tires, need to weigh up to 12% LESS to have the same rotational resistance as 17's, and they usually weigh more.

Its all physics. Look up "moment of inertia" if you want to know more.

If your all about the straight line racing, get some lightweight 15s. Bigger wheels (actually more accurately, wider tires) will help with dry traction in straights and cornering, but will usually hurt acceleration and braking (in cases where there is no slip).

Get lightweight 18's like I did...I'm almost sure at 100% that they weight even less then the stock gen 2 rims

Mine are 18's Spyn SVS...

The only way to get light wheels is to go FORGED WHEELS. They are the best for track use.

Example:
Volk Racing CE-28's
Volk Racing LE37

These are light weight wheels.
If you dont have the money to get the expensive stuff, Koing also make a forged wheel called TRAK LIGHT. They are supper light. I can lift the wheels with 2 fingers in 18x7.5

but the bigger wheel you go the most performance you loss.

Trak Lites are made by Motegi, not Konig. These were one of the wheels I had looked into. They are pretty much the cheapest forged wheels you can get. Its about $300 a corner for 17".

While the Trak Lite's are pretty plain IMO, the Trak Lite 2's actually look good. However, Also, they dont come in 18 at all. 17s as big as they come. Also, they were pretty much made for Civic fitment only, so you'd have to play with spacers to get it to sit right.

Sorry, Your Correct. I got the companies mixed up.
But if you are looking for goof lite wheels for a good price the Trak lites are great wheels.

Unless you plan on spending some money for the more expensive forged wheels.

I would shove 15's on but I don't think they would make it over the caliper. I rememver in my old accord you could really feel the difference between the 16's and the 14's.

Gen 1 Stock is 15"...unless you got a Big brake kit, in which 17's as low as you can go for caliper clearance.

wheel

Postby NRDriver » Wed Oct 04, 2006 4:28 pm

well, it looks like i will stay with the 17's. im not gonna go any smaller cuz it would look pretty stupid and i want my car to look clean still. anyways, this car isnt a straight away race car.LOL.

with that said, will 18's help handling with corners and windy roads?
