is it okay for me to put lowering springs on my stock struts?

yeah, but dont expect the struts to last long, and ride quality will suffer (more than it should)
its best to upgrade both at once, rather than being forced to upgrade struts later (and paying double the installation)

Nasty said it exactly correct. The lowering springs will put extra stress on the OEM struts and will cause them to wear out thus ruining ride quality.
