I have a Yakamia rack, havent used it myself though. Got it from my neighbor who we bought the car from.

We tried it on when he gave it to me, seems like a very nice one...

roof rack

Postby Solara916 » Mon Mar 19, 2007 12:13 pm

Thank's for that post/link CAMCRAZY. It's nice to know that it is possible to have one on the car. I had reservations about using the removable, rear bike rack because I didn't want to have to keep putting it on and taking it off when i go for bike rides, but I guess it would be cheaper and the fact that the roof rack does cause some damage/wear on the paint makes me want it even less.

Guess its the rear one for me then.

Thank's for the responses.

if installed properly the yakima roof rack doesnt cause damage. most people dont install them properly and this is what causes the paint fading and sometimes oxidation. my dad has had one on his honda accord for 9 years, when we take it off you cant tell one has ever been on.

Hm, can anyone else back what sahuddleston has to say? I don't know if I want to risk it.

Also, does anyone know if these things are hella heavy? My Solara is slow as is, and with my speakers in the back, I don't really want to make it any slower due to the weight on the car.

Correct.. If the Yakima Rack is installed correctly you should not run into those problems. Yakima's design are really good.

Usaully the problem with ppls having the fading problem is they dont install correctly.
I would probably recommend a cleaning removal once every 6 month or so...

They are light so its not heavey at all. I have the steal head bike attachment and also the Raptor and they are super light....
