How to quiet the exhaust

How to quiet the exhaust

Postby Ragtop George » Sat May 10, 2003 9:29 pm

My new Y pipe is very noisy, it rings under heavy throttle. It may not be the sort of thing that is noticable in a coupe, but with the top down it is quite annoying. If you tap the stock exhaust piping with a wrench, it goes clunk. If you tap the stainless piping on my Y pipe, it rings like a bell. Is there any way of damping this out? Would header wrap work? Or do I have to replace the piping?

Thanks

George

The only thing you can do is take it to local muffler shop and ask them. most likely i think the y pipe is a bit too long, so it doesnt fit perfectly. or maybe the gasket is bad or missing? or loosen bolts?

Adding resonators will help as well as wrapping it with header wrap. What kind of piping did your shop use? All in all, the noise level of your exhaust with your new Ypipe will never be as muted as the stock one.
