"Unleaded gasoline. Octane Rating 87 (Research Octane Number 91) or higher. For improved vehicle performance, the use of premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher is recommended.
The higher your Octane Rating is, the slower the fuel burns during the combustion process. Pinging or detonation, is caused by your fuel completing combustion before the piston completes it's combustion cycle. Providing that the supply of octanes within the fuel is adequate, your engine will only use as much as it needs to complete the combustion cycle. This means that running race fuel is a waste of money if you do not have sufficient compression to use the octanes within the fuel.
