what air filter to use on my intake

what air filter to use on my intake

Ok, so going to order a k&n filter for my soon to be CAI. I recall that they made two different ones that fit the intake that are open flow, so actually flow through the top and the sides. Which one should I go to? Dont have the part #s in front of me but will look them up later.

wait what?
where many hate, few will love,
But for those who love,
they'll see what it's like to live.

Midias I appreciate you looking but that's not it. I got the part #s guys. I actually didnt even find out about these open flow filters till I stumbled upon a thread when searching on here to make sure no surprises for when i installed my SRI.

Basically the filters I'm looking at are K&N cone style, but are open at the top so they get more airflow (as opposed to having to enter through the sides). The part #s are RX-4870 and RR-3003. Just wondering which one is more ideal. Price difference is very small so that's not a factor for me

the longer the better....

but the thing that you have to notice as well is that the two that you posted are different sizes in their flange diameter.

the first one you posted is 3" (which is the most popular for our cars), while the second one (RR-3003) is only 2.75" - a bit restrictive than you would want, I presume (injen, etc = 3", CPE = 3.5")

And the open top doesn't make much of a difference since your filter is usually on an angle and not lying flate on its side

injen = 2.75 3in is too big for our MAF without a ECU upgrade

hmmm...I always thought that the injen one was 3"?

and lol...must suck to have your ecu's.....I have a 3" custom one on mine and I'm still running rich as hell at 6lbs of boost. I actually have to turn my fuel pressure down or else I hit an afr of 10.x at WOT. I'm doing 11.x now, so it's better, but I don't want to go any leaner unless it's with a piggyback.

I guess the safcII is going on this weekend.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I heard 2.75 is close to Injen but I heard 3'' is doable just have to tighten the clamp more. Guess I'll go with the larger of the two. Doubt it'll make much difference (I hope). Anyone else feel free to chime in

get the 2.75 if you are woeking on a 2.75 system you dont want any unfiltered air leaks. Do it right or just don't do it at all that is what i always say about cars.

Well I'm gonna order the 2.75 one tonight at Auto Zone on my way to the gym. BTW, this will be going on the extension I bought off of here that will make my Injen a CAI, so I assume the piping is still similar diamter.

I also decided to look up the part #s online and now y'all got me confused. Where did you guys get ur diameters as RR-3003 is shown as being 3'' while RX-4870 is 2.75. Is there something I'm missing here or did you guys get your filters crossed?
