fuel system mods, huh? do you know exactly what he did?

I believe that he made some adjustments to his fuel pressure regulator, and also put in higher flow fuel injectors. He may have an upgraded fuel pump, as well. In addition, I think he may have done some bottom end work to his engine. He owns an automotive repair shop, which is why he can do a lot of these things.

just a quick thought to all solara owners...if you are gonna buy a supercharger and an upgraded pulley to try and get high numbers and beat alot of other cars dont do it! get the s/c to satisfy your own need for speed dont expect to turn ur solara into a ferrari wether its a 5 spd or an auto...the only thing i can think of to do that will help u get a return on ur solara-mod investment is making it a showcar...face the truth our cars will never beat a cobra and that itself sells for only 35k...is anyone else feeling what im saying? basically dont be dissapointed if you dont get massive numbers while investing 10K plus into your engine...its just not gonna happen...sorry about the long post. Good points. I agree with you about inflated expectations of a Solara. It was just not designed to be a muscle car. I've never worried too much about 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. It's just not important unless you spend all your driving time looking for stop-light races. I just want my car to be responsive when I need it to be, whether it's for a quick pass or just some aggressive driving on winding 2 lane roads. For that reason, I want it to handle as well as it can, in addition to having some power. As a front drive car that was designed for comfort, it just has too many limitations.

By the way, I don't agree with you about getting more of your money back on show car investments. I don't think most people want to pay full value for those mods on a car any more than they do performance mods.

i understand about what u mean with the show car investment...however what i meant to say was ur chances of getting prize money for a show are greater than winning a DRAG circuit race. Also you have to remember: when people mod for a show car look its not just the shows, its also what comes out of the shows...like publicity...who knows your car could end up on F&F3 and get paid well for it! knock sensor

Postby AT » Mon Jun 02, 2003 8:59 am

99 Solara 5spd, S/C 6lb pulley, Greddy Exhaust.

Check engine light comes on Toyota said it was Knock sensor. I think that once the CEL is on the car will retard timing and you will lose power if it is the knock sensor. If I reset the car (disconnect battery and reconnect) then the timing is reset and the car runs great until the CEL comes on again. I changed to a different brand of gas still using 93 octane and after a week the light went away by itself for about 8 days then the light came back this weekend and I reset it again. I called TRD; a tech there said replace both knock sensors (Solara has 2). He also said that they have been known to go bad after the supercharger install but that if replaced the problem will go away (I don't know if I believe that). Knock sensor will cost about $175/ea.

I was told by a few people on forums to:

-use 93 octane
-install colder plugs Denso Iridium IK22
-get S-AfC and tune car

What I plan to do is change plugs and continue to use 93 octane gas. If I still get the light then I will replace knock sensors.

Do you feel your car losing power when the CEL comes on? I get the CEL
from time to time, and then it shuts off on it's own after a few days. I don't feel any difference in power when it's on. I have had it scanned, and it's a problem with knock sensor #2. I have also heard that some people have replaced the knock sensors and then have had no further problems. Since you can run 93 octane gas (I assume that you don't live in California), you will probably be OK if you replace the knock sensors and then follow the other recommendations that you listed.

Ya, I dont feel any diffence in the power when my CEL comes on. Although the light has been on for like a week now, and just last night the CEL went off.
So now that I have my air/fuel mix down, I hope it doesn't come back on.It will probley come back on as soon as I step on it.
Oh, well

Most people with big numbers have had more then a cat-back, either a Y-pipe or headers.
