do i need to change the struts, coilovers or shocks?

Postby AChumacher » Fri Aug 17, 2007 2:53 am

i want to purchase tein s. tech lowering springs and i was wondering if i have to change the struts, coilovers or shocks? i see that a lot of members have the tein springs/tokico shocks set up and i'm wondering if its necessary or can i get away with just changing the springs?

any advice is welcome,

thank you.

you can just change the springs, leaving the stock struts on...but after time, the stock struts will go out.

I lowered my girls' Maxima, just springs and it's been fine so far...but I'm prepared for the struts when its time.

FYI, you don't have coilovers. Coilovers are springs/strut combo that usually 1 piece. It's definately better to change both, putting on lowering springs will accelerate the struts going out. Save time and money by doing them at the same time. Also, in some cases the ride was more bouncy with stock struts and lowering springs.

if i just change the springs, how many months or years would it take before i had to replace my stock struts? i have a 99 V6 with 160,000km's and the suspension has never been changed.

With that many klicks you should get new struts. They are prolly kind of worn out already.
If you are in there already doing springs, no reason to not change them. If your short on money put new oem ones in.
