S/C Idler Pulley Rattle .....

Postby CrazyCraig » Sat Sep 13, 2003 1:14 pm

Well, it seems that the time has come to replace my idler pulley for my S/C. There is only about 40k miles on it, but it is making some heinous noises at low idle. It sounds like a diesel with a coupla' bent rods! The noise eases up as the rpm's go up but it is still there. Has anyone else had this problem .......... or is it just bad luck?[/b]

Yep, I am getting my replaced as we speak. I had noise problems with my belt , and three week later my toyota finaly got it in. And as they were replacing my belt they saw that my dynamic tensioner was shot. So one week later and still no car. I have had the most problem with that car. I hate to say this but, I HAVE HAD LESS PROBLEMS WITH MY FORD ESCORT THAN MY SOLARA. and I put fiftythousand miles on in two and half years.
sorry solara family :(

ahem...please append that statement to list all of the modifications you've done. its not fair to say that about a reliable car without also telling everyone what else YOU'VE DONE to this car.

Well, what I think happened  was that the guy that tuned my Safc leaned my car out way to much, like I was in the 15 to 1 ratio at the beginning of my fuel cure and slowly came down to 13 to 1 at the higher RPMs, but before all that happened I had the pulley on there for about 3 months, and after one night of racing, I noticed that the RPM's where jumping around from 400 to 700 when I was at idle, I could never figure out what that was from.
Or make it go away, So of course after I get tuned or I thought that I was getting tuned my CEL come on and thats were all the problems started. Only if I knew what my Air/fuel should have been. I could have not had this whole problem, That's what I get for going to a custom mustang shop. and of course after about 4 months of trying to, I'm done for now.
