Quickshifter's speed clip removal

I've read the threads, but can't find anything solid. I'm trying to install my TRD quickshifter and am having trouble getting the cotter pin and speed clip off. What should I use?

Also, if anyone has any further instructions or tips on installing the quickshifter to speed up the process that'd be great. Many thanks!

It took me an hour to install the shifter... 40 mins trying to figure out a way to take off that speed clip off. Since you got a new one with the kit already, try breaking the old one using two screw drivers - one small and another big. It'll work eventually. As soon as you get done.. the rest is just what putting the parts together again.

Thanks, looking forward to using it once its installed :D

But for the moment, I've gotten the speed clip off but need to know if I need to remove the small metal tube (part of the hinge) in order to take out the old stick cuz I can't seem to angle it right for it to come out easily. Suggestions?
