I started the car today and drove to school on the way back after class I decide to take the freeway anyhoo I was driving normally when all of sudden I notice that I was feeling a rumble on engine compartment I let go of the gas and it stop I slowly accelerate I notice during the whining stage (third gear) my rpms are going crazy it was going at 8ks @ 65 and I have an auto and I was only pressing gas very lightly does someone had the same experience? I am in a process of doing a port polish and custom intercooler on my 1mz but if my car breaks thats a total set back for me

You're getting an intercooler on the s/c?

8K

Postby jim@foreignaffairs » Wed Oct 06, 2004 9:31 am

Well, first of all, your motor won't do 8K since there is a rev limiter set at 6250 built into the ECU. But it sounds like your transmission is stuck in a low gear like 2nd which would give you pretty high revs at 65. You should check your fluid level and linkages, if you don't have a check engine light take it to a mechanic. Keep in mind that when cold, the transmission tends to stay in lower gears to warm up the cats and O2 sensors, but it usually only takes a minute or two of driving, so if your car was warm, that's not a factor.

I would love to see something in the big leaf catcher opening. Right now, I'm having the body shop put back my fogs, because it looks so much better on the b/w bumper, I hate seeing to much mesh. With the fogs in, I won't have any direct air flow. Also, will you have to cut anything to route the piping?

the solara will never have a "true" intercooler.. just pre induction intercoolers... there is just no room between the S/c and the heads.. thus no room for a True intercooler... something to cool intake temps even more would be a thought tho
Parting out my car!!! great upgrades for sale!

sure I will post some pics. I just want everything done before I post pics

as for my problem I took it to my mechanic and have a engine diagnostics and couldnt find anything he reset the ecu and it was gone it drove fine, though im still really confuse on what really happen as for jim, the car hit 8k's it sounds really weird because of the rev limiter the only thing that my mechanic told me is ECU was malfunctioning
due to the wrong installation of SAFC-II that one of his mechanic installed
