Sway Bar installation -- NEED HELP PLS

Sway Bar installation -- NEED HELP PLS

Postby that1mexguy » Tue Feb 22, 2005 1:10 pm

Ok well I got my sway bar and now I'm trying to install it. Instructions read that I need to uninstall the stock bar, so for me to remove it, there are a few bolts I need to remove. I've located the bolts, and I am able to remove one side, but the right hand side does not want to come off. (Please see pics -- The 2nd pic is just a close up for pic 1 -- Letter A is the nut, and letter B is the ring)
When I turn the bolt counter-clock wise, the ring on the other side turns as well so I am not able to remove the nut. On the left side this same ring did not turn and the nut comes out easily. I tried getting some pliers and whatever I could to see if I could hold the ring but nothing works, instead some type of fluid came out of that so that's when I dediced to stop... any suggestions guys?

There should be a hex key fitting on the end of the bolt. Use that and a wrench.

i did what you origionally tried...i wasn't sure how to get it off either, but a guy came up to me and helped me out with it. i used those adjustable pliers (can't remember what their called), but they have an adjustment at the end of it which allows you to either close or open the mouth of the pliers to a specified width once you clamp it down. once i did that, i wrenched it off and it came right out. hope that helps

prob a channel lock or robo grip...

that1mexguy- you ruined your tie rod. that fluid is grease that keeps the screw lub'd.

you need to use a 14mm open end and a hex key what TadS said.

I think the whole end comes off and can be replaced. Go to your Toyota dealer the parts guy should be able to help you out. I don't know if they will sell you just the rubber boot and lube, or if you have to buy the whole end link. I will have access to an All-Data system Monday, so if you’re still confused, I will look on there.

Be glad that you haven't striped that f00king endlink. I had to drill mine out twice.

Toyota love to cheap out on the endlinks. The hex key part is just dumb.

when u guys installing the sway bar, do you actually jack up the car or put the car into those ramps?

no no...i do have the sway bar installed, but that stupid bushing is making nosies, but i have a lot of problems dealing with this stupid sway bar..( i spent at least 300 for labor to re-install again and again becuase i took it back and wasn't able to put it back on!) so i'm wondering is that why people able to install it while it's on jack since i put it on those ramps...
