Drilling holes in stock airbox

Drilling holes in stock airbox

Postby hari-bhari » Sun Mar 27, 2005 9:14 pm

I remember reading a while back about someone drilling holes into the bottom of their stock airbox for more sound / air flow. What are the thoughts on this? I do miss the sound of my CAI.

i read that we could take the resonator thingy off for more sound too. sucks tho, cuz i just put it all back together this weekend, and getting that damn resonator back in was such a BIZNATCH

I would think that drilling a hole in the bottom would negate the whole "filter" thing... might as well just take the whole intake off if you're gonna do that, since that's obviously the pimp thing to do

Just take the resonator off behind the fuse box in the engine bay.
That's what i did.
I noticed a slight better acceleration.
Also louder.

hari: IMO, drilling holes is ghetto, i know some teggies do it to make their 'PHART CAN' louder! you already had a CAI if i remember correctly, its should sound great already! As far as removing the resonator and making it a straight pipe, its all personal preferances. I like deeper tones not louder tones, IMO - w/o respmtpr is just louder not deeper...but then again beauty of the sound depends on the ear of the beholder!!!

good points from all of you. i guess ill take off the resonator and see if i like it or not. i did have the cai, but i sold it for the $$ since i wasnt gonna do any more engine work anyways. maybe ill try the dryer duct thing for a little more power at high RPMs. oh and drilling holes in the bottom of the stock airbox wont get ur engine dirty air, everything still goes through the filter cuz the filter branches off of the TOP half of the airbox

The stock airbox is connected to plastic piece that has an opening pointing towards the front of the car, and to the stock resonator. No need to drill.

if you drill hole on the intake, you will need to make some heat shield and direct ports. you might want to visit lexus and supra forum for more detail.

drill hole is not ghetto. My bro spoke to RacingBeat USA director and he felt it is the best way for the intake improvement and they done it to all of their offcial race car. But it just matter if you can do it right..
