OBX Headers

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Mon Mar 28, 2005 5:44 pm

Having read about the rather unhappy postings regarding Xerd headers or whatever they were called which was only obvious from the really bad design would never make it to market and if they had you would be sorry you ever got them because they had no flex and would break...

Well, OBX Racing Sports has a listing for a 1MZ-FE Solara header. Part number 10-2809-4 for 99-03 model year Solara. And apparently available in Ceramic of Stainless. They have a listing for 4 cylinder cars as well.

obx headers

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Mon Mar 28, 2005 8:26 pm

I'll have to get back to you all tomorrow. I am at home now. A few weeks ago I got new catalogs from OBX. They think I am a dealer, but I haven't bought much from them. Anyway, among others, they sent me a catalog of all thier exhaust stuff and included was the aforementioned listing for Solara headers. I'll see what more I can find out tomorrow.

I had really good experience of obx, I used to have their short shifter and catbcak exhaust for my 240sx. They are cheap and nice. for ka motor the header runs about $180 shipped over the ebay...so for 1mz i would think it is about $400

OK here is the contact information on the back of the catalog: www.obxracingsports.com. This didn't work for me.

The URL shouldn't have a dot at the end. Remove it and it works.

Amazing price. Awfully tempting. Is there any use in doing this with a NA 1MZ? The OBX site doesn't show an application for the Solara, but the Forza Tuning site does.

Hey Jim, have or know any details of these headers? I was wondering if they were the actual header unit itself or if it includes the y pipe too. Anyone else interested? I am but being me, would be too lazy to set anything up or do some research on contacts etc.

OBX Headers

Postby PDX SuperSolara » Tue Mar 29, 2005 9:43 am

Even on S/C cars headers don't do too much until about 5000 rpm. So I don't know that they would be very helpful on N/A cars. The OBX catalog does not have a picture of this header set, however all of the other 6 cylinder sets pictured include Y pipes and flex joints. They don't have the long primary tubes like the JPP setup, so I would expect more loss of low RPM torque than the JPP headers. But for $500 the price can't be beat! I have never driven them so I don't know more than that.

^^ Yeah $500! The JPP setup is way overpriced, even though I was serious about ordering them. I know they have done the r&d but so have other companies selling them for much less. Lets hope Forza and OBX have also. I would be down for a gb if we can get more info.
