Mcculloch HID ground/lowbeam comment

Well, after a whille of tinkering and waiting, I finally got the Mcculloch HIDs from fenix to work. Only weird part was that the wiring was wrong! Is the headlight harness for the H4 solara same as the Camry or what? When I got them from fenix, the postive and negative were switched around and did not fire up when just plugged in. I used a volt meter found out that the top was a ground and low was the right slot. Strage, I'm just confused since it seems that no one else has had this problem before. Anyone wanna comment on this? Btw, the lights work now :D

Well Bro,

I had a older version of this kit (color 5000k kit) and the same thing happen to me when i went up to the challenge to install the kit. The cool thing is that the layout was plug and play; However, this is when the same issue came up (the terminals being wired backwards). My experience with this kit was not good. One i could recall was whenever the remote starter was summoned, the lights would flicker and one of the lamps would be unlit. :x
As a safe measure for your sake, make sure you have the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) disabled. The constant voltage drop from the electrical system will harm your HID kit. The harm is reflected on your ballast unit. Ballast units are not cheap (especailly this MCculloch kits intergrated ignitor unit). In my case it is a older unit.

ah interesting. Mine was wired backwards as well as you described. Thankfully my car doesnt have the daytime running lamps. Since it was a plug and play kit, I first left it as it was and tried the other plugs. It left me with a bulb that did a "strobelight" flickering effect. I quickly turned it off and thought that my ballast died. Thankfully when I took the time to test everything out, I rewired and got it working again. Thanks goodness that everything worked as planned.

Still... strange that it worked for fenix with backwards wiring.

Good reaction time in killing the power before damaging the ballast unit. I know what you mean. It so happens that I blew both units on my first set (a frankenstein HID kit) 5 years ago. Luckly the vender that sold me the kit exchanged the item. As of this point, I'm on my third kit (thanks to some hook-ups). :D

Anyway good luck on your purchase and many years of service. :P

Glad it worked out alright for you, Castro.

As for me, it was just plug & play though.

Maybe the Camry 97 and the Solara 2000 has different connectors for the headlight.
