Talk about aftermarket Toyota Solara Gen 1-1.5 upgrades.

Is this even possible?

Is this even possible?

Postby dominoSLEV6 » Thu Jun 23, 2005 4:48 pm

I'm just wondering, being rather inept mechanicly compare dot most on here...

My friend jokingly taunted me to put a Supra engine in my Solara.

Is that even possible? I know it's a line 6, not a V, but I was wondering if that's even in the realm of oh I could do that without rebuilding everything and it's mother. I know it wouldn't be cheap, but it just intrigued me.

Just a question. No laughing please.

The Solara drag cars are simply a racing frame (TUBE) w/ a supra chassis and Solara shell....

The best and easiest (by far!) swap you can do into a Solara is a 3S-GTE (MR-2 Turbo, Celica ALL-TRAC). This engine can be tuned quite well for a 4-cyl.

The Supra engine WILL NOT WORK because of the engine layout (long. mounted I-6), the engine size (I-6...), transmission (not transaxle), RWD (our rear is just a dead log lol), Driveshaft placement (no room for us), Exhaust rerouting (due to drive shaft), rear wheel well size (tiny width tires don't cut it w/ high power... unless you just want a stock 2jz-gte... but I'm sure that's not the case)...

I can go on and on... but there's no reason to. You've learn that it's not possible and I'm sure you'll accept it LOL. You may want to research the AWD Camry 4-cyl in Japan... that'd make it possible for an AWD 3S-GTE (hardcore project!!!)

I park next to a modded one at least once a week at work (everyone has a SC or Solara... lol) and it'd be lame... why not just buy the SC... the Solara was designed by the same guy that designed the Soarer. He designed BOTH cars (91-00 SC, and current SC 430) and Solara (both gens) at Calty (Newport Beach, CA)... while the older Soarer was created in Japan. The last gen (JZZ31/UZZ30) was created BY ACCIDENT! LoL!! He dropped a balloon full of clay or whatever the models are made of... and it fell on his arm and the shape intriqued him... I'll get a pic when I have time lol it's hilarious!
