stiff front teins

If you have tein s-tech springs on your car, walk out to it and push down on either front fender. How far can you manually compress your front suspension?

My rear suspension has plenty of travel but the front is like a rock. Makes for some uncomfortable hits when there is anything more than a small bump in the road. Are my springs sagging or is this normal? They arent even a year old yet! My bumpstops are cut in half but still there is only a finger gap before the strut tube meets the bumpstop.

It is normal for the front springs to be MUCH stiffer than the back. They do that for a couple reasons but primarily because of the weight distribution on the vehicle. A normal spring setup is like 6kg/mm in the front and 3kg/mm rear. That means 6 kilograms to compress the spring 1 millimeter.

When you say "boing", if the problem is when you hit a bump your car bounces a couple times, that means the struts are not dampening the oscillations of the springs and are bad if they are not adjustable or at least that they are not valved properly to match the spring rate installed. If you hit a bump and it just feels harsh, that's just what a stiff suspension does. The alternative (stock suspension- soft suspension) compresses easier but gives no support in hard cornering. If you are getting bounce, did you by any chance put in lowering springs and not replace the struts? If so, consider better struts.

As a last note, please do not push your car down from the fenders. You'd be surprised how easy it is to leave a small dent from doing that. The fenders are not that tough. -JoeB

sorry, "boing"="bump" as in "bump the thread"

there are no oscillations. i installed tokicos with my teins.
but thanks everyone for confirming that the front spring rate is normal.
