Dimmer for White Face gauges

Ok i just got my new inverter for my white face gauges.
Well i was goin' to put the new inverter dimmer in place of the OEM dimmer.
Can i wire the factory dimmer to the new white face gauge dimmer???
I know which wire is for hte OEM dimmer.
Would i need to find out which wires for the white face gauge dimmer that will match up wit the OEM dimmer??
If i do this will it burn out the white face gauges or the factory bulbs????
Help would be thankful.
