Aiming/Adjusting lights on Aftermarket Headlights

I installed my blackhousing headlights today and expected to need to readjust them. It seems I just can't get them to how my stock ones look.

No matter how often I turn the High/Low bolt, my passenger side won't go AS HIGH as I'd like it, and I can't get my driver's side to go left very much.

Right now they are both kinda pointing towards my grille and a little low...so I know I won't be blinding anyone but I can't see all that great...

Anyone else have similiar problems with the black housed headlights? And any suggestions what to do?

I installed mine for the Gen 1.5 and I have a problem where they aim a little high and outwards. Go figure. I know it doesn't help you but just wanted to let the Gen 1.5 guys know. I haven't tried to adjust them yet but I may need to enlarge some holes ...

Mine was pointed on the ground, but I did get them adjusted ok. It took awhile, I think you have to turn the bolt slowly. It seems when I did it fast, it didn't move at all. I don't know though, I want to raise mine up a bit more. Unfortunately, I haven't had my car in a few weeks, it's sitting at UPFD.

If you think visability w/ aftermarket reflectors is bad, just wait till someone makes aftermarket projectors...

yea i have the same problem too.. sucks. but what do you expect they arnt the best.. i wish the corners would of been better..

OK well I put them on. The headlight quality seems OEM, and so does the reflector pattern inside the lens. The only physical difference I see to OEM (besides the housing color) is that the up-down knob is a 10mm isntead of an 8mm.

I cant get my driverside to the left much either...for some reason when I turn the knob for left-right, it seems to go higher and more out of focus instead of to the left
I cant get a good grip on that screw, so I'll take them out this weekend and try it again with the housing unmounted. I was able to get stock height though using a combination of the up-down screw and the left-right screw (that seems to be moving up), and its still going up more, I had to bring it back down. Visibility isnt bad, but the beam pattern is off a bit off..theres about 3 hotspots and theres 3 streaks coming down from each headlight when i shine up on a wall. Come to think of it, my bulb might not be seated right if its moving up-down instead of side to side and I'm getting hotspots.

I check my bulb seatment later this week. (I got HIDs, dont know if beam pattern will be any different for the halogen people)

shine ur lights against a wall or garage... give about 15-20 feet

My beam pattern is blotchy. And it looks like they are beams, my OEM lights were greatly dispersed and just gave off this great light, where this light looks like a really focused beam.

Also my passenger side won't go up any more, and if i jiggle the bulb plug (when it's securely attached in the lamp), the chrome part of the housing is MOVING, as if its dettached.

Not very happy with much besides the overall look...

Hmmm mine doesnt jiggle when I wiggle the bulb. Does one do it and not the other?

Maybe you broke something? Take it out and shake it and see if your hear anything loose

I still cant figure out how these aiming bolts work physically. Does it tilt chrome part on the inside? If so, maybe you broke something that connects to those bolts that was holding up the inner housing.

I am getting the weird beam patterns though.Surprising since the reflector pattern looks completely OEM.

Probably because they didn't do enough R&D as much as Toyota did.
