Check Engine Light/IPOD Interface

Check Engine Light/IPOD Interface

Postby Toya-Solara » Tue Nov 29, 2005 12:40 pm

Ok here goes, i have a kenwoood in 7" indash head unit & last night i recieved the kenwood adapter for my ipod, after removing the kenwood head unit and the AC control unit i installed the adapter which allows me to control my ipod form my kenwood head unit. After a successful install and putting everything back together i realize that my check engine light was on.
my question is are there sensors or wires behind the radio and AC control unit that i might have unplugged to cause my check engine light to come on and also is there a way i could turn it off?
Please note to remove the center piece i had to unplug the clock power and the hazard light switch the cigarette lighter power and light and also the light for the ash tray, i did not remove the wires for the AC control unit i just pulled it out to get some extra room. I searched for check engine light to see if anyone had similar problems when installing aftermarket equipment but i was not successful.

Please Help.

OBD-II

OBD-II sucks when you try to do power mods, but I think it is unlikely that unplugging something from behind the dash would turn the CEL on. Assuming, of course, that you plugged everything back in.

In any case, just scan the OBD and you'll know. I think a scanner should be in everyone's tool box.

I'm sorry i have no clue what OBD means or how to scan it or what to use to scan it (i'm still learning). Do i have to take it to the dealer to get it done? or is this something i can purchase in the local aotu parts store?

you can take it to any autozone and they will check it for you for free. It's a plug right under your dash that connects to the cars computer system. If you really aren't that concerned about it and feel that it just happened to come on because you may have turned the key with all that stuff unplugged, which btw is why it may have came on, then just undo the battery for half an hour or so. This will reset the cel, if the problem still remain then the light will come back on again.

Yup that's exactly what i did i needed the room in that area so i turned the ignition switch to the on position and push the gear stick into "L" to get more room to remove the center piece then i turned the ignition switch i notch back and the car was like that for 60 mins which is the time it took me to do this install. I'm pretty sure it's nothing because i made sure i reconnected everything and everything works fine. however i'd love to purchase one of those scanners is there a more specific name for it or is it just car scanner?

Oh Yeah i forgot THANKS BRO!!
