Alright so I am going in Saturday to have my first tints put on and was wondering what people would recommend - Would you have all your windows tinted the same % or differentiate between them? I'm looking to go by FL law (even though I'm in NY) since I am from Tampa originally and have a FL plate, so basically that boils down to:

28% front
15% rear
5% back

I guess my question is: Would that look stupid? Can a casual glance really notice the difference? Also, would just like anyone's stories/opinions on getting stopped for their tints and how often it really does happen.

how often do you drive with your front windows down? that "could" reduce the chances of you being pulled over

how long are you going to keep the FL plates? not sure of NY regulations of the # of days you can keep the out of state plate while youre residing there

as far as looks, i personally think as long as your tinted, your ride will look good... of course darker is better. keep in mind, parallel parking at night is somewhat a biiiitch cuz your tint may be too dark. So get used to it...
On the up side, you dont get blinded by stupid car owners that have krooked or high-aiming headlights

and when you get the tint job done, dont roll your windows down for about 3-5 days and park in the sunlight (winter in NY now must suck nutz!). I didnt roll my windows down for 2 weeks just to be sure tint is dry :D

I actually asked the guy at the shop about that over the phone and he said the crappy weather shouldn't affect the tints or anything, it will just take longer to dry. I'm only going to be in NY til May, then it's off to DC (that presents a whole other set of problems though). I was told by a friend once that as long as you roll down your windows when you're next a cop at a light or something you should be okay, though.

Yeah itll take longer to dry... park it in your garage to avoid morning dew/moisture... on that note, youll be limited on using your rear defroster to up the longevity of your rear window tints

Just my thoughts too. :D

30% transparentcy all around is what I shoot for. Not to dark at night and still enough shade in the blinding Summer Solstice sun. When the sun is closer to the earth and where the sun is eyeleve. :o :x 8) I still see spots :o I can't see...

What is the color of your interior? If it is light, I would get 15% all around. I have a dwp with tan interior and 15% is perfect.

Oh, leaving your sunroof open will help a lot too, especially at night. This usually keeps the po-po's away. :)

5% all around (if you have light interior)....you've got FL plates so they shouldn't really mess with you cuz your car is not registered in NY for all they know you could be just passing thru.

My 'Lara is red with all tan interior. Regarding the rear defroster...does that mean I can barely use it at ALL or just when it is in the drying process. I don't have the luxury of keeping my car in a garage but I am going to buy a nice car cover today after class so as to protect it from the snow and such.

What would 28% look like from the outside? I'm doing it for style as well as privacy (sun glare is an added perk). 15% would be nice but I'm afraid of getting hassled by the cops and fined for it WHEREVER I go, not just select states.

Anyone had experiences with annoying cops regarding this matter?

with tan interior you should be fine with 15%. 5% is way too dark, you can barely see at night! As long as you aren't tinting your winshield, you will be good with 15%. Tinting the windshield makes it look A LOT darker, since it stops light from entering the largest piece of glass on our cars. I have had 30%, 20% and now 15% and am very pleased with the 15%. Especially in the summer, you would not believe the amount of heat that the extra tint stops from entering your car!

The thing in Michi is that as long as the local athorities can see you it is not a issue. See U as far as indentifing how many are in the vehicle and what gender. It is not nessarily mean that they can clearly see you. :D

This would only affect the drying process... once the tint dries, morning dew/frost isnt a problem since most of the moisture is on the outside. but if the weather comes to a point where the inside of your windows fog up (obviously moisture), turn up the heater to dry it up.

Even after its all dried up, you still want to avoid using it. Using it all the time may cause the tint to bubble up over time and that looks nasty!! If you have to use it, then use it for a couple mins then shut it off... I use my rear defroster like 5 times a year @ 3-5 mins each time lol... that may seem a little anal, but hey I know my tint would last

Well I only suggested parking in the garage during the drying process, but if you get a car cover, depending on how much youre going to use the cover, make sure to get one that doesnt scratch up your paint... i spent a lot of money on mine

35% all around.

Didn't really want them too dark. The cops in New York won't pull you over for tints unless you also have the front windshield tinted or your just driving like an ass looking to be pulled over........

Since your moving in a few months, I would get other opinions on what you should do by people that live in the area your moving too, might not be worth it if your gonna get pulled over all the time.
