question about gauge pod

question about gauge pod

Postby BradOwens » Sun Feb 19, 2006 10:23 am

i have an autometer dual gauge pod and i was wondering if there was any way to fix the gap between the pod and the pillar. since my pod is tan the gap shows even worse. right now my pod is being held in by the screws tht come with the pod. i was maybe thinking some double sided tape could work but how am i going to take the pod off w/o stripping the screws and all the wires going everywhere. u cant see it really in this pic but during teh day its pretty bad. heres the 2 spots i need double sided tape.

Gauge Pods

Postby jim@foreignaffairs » Sun Feb 19, 2006 10:42 am

I work on lots of cars with gauge pods and they rarely are so tight there are no gaps. Double sided tape rarely holds the seam closed very long. The fasteners have to be installed initially to hold stretch the housing tight and close to the A pillar. Unless you use something between the pod and A pillar that fills the gap and looks like it belongs, messing with it can just make it uglier. That's one reason I have resisted using one. I have seen them molded into the A pillar, but I don't know how it was done. I know the gap was filled and the whole piece painted.

Brad,
I think it looks pretty good. Certainly tighter than mine. I wouldn't worry about it. Nice job.
