Yeah dude (I think his name is john) Grazi07 has this under control with a local shop of his. They're working hand in hand with megan to perfect these, but it's looking liek they will happen and at a significantly lower cost than JPP. Enough so that I can see a group buy on these actually working out (but not easily) for once. Megan sent their first set of headers with y-pipe and exhaust to test out at the shop that Grazi is working with. There were some small imperfections where they had to sort've kink the piping to get everything to fit right. They more or less labeled the headers Megan gave them with problem ares, and what did and didn't work with some details on other things theyu discovered working with the system, and sent the whole setup back to megan to be re-tweaked. With any luck this will work out, I'm hoping so anyhow.

Yeah when they test the Megan headers and Y-pipe they blew both gaskets from the headers to the Y-pipe, and the Y-pipe was knockin' on the oil pan, so the shop sent it back to Megan Racin' to redo the headers and Y-pipe to make sure nothin' happens again.
Hope this works out........

Yup guys, thats where it still stands unfortunately. We've been contacting them every 2 weeks or so to see how it's going, and they've yet to give us a date for the second prototype. Basically they weren't expecting the problems we encountered so they had to go back to the drawing board. Everyone's committed to getting it done correctly opposed to quickly, so hang tight.

The last time we talked with them, they seemed pretty excited that I was getting supercharged. Now that mine's been installed, I'm hoping it'll light a spark under their butts. My goal is to get them installed by April 29th - HIN Boston. I'm offering to display a banner for them, we'll see how it goes.

I hate that I can't give you guys better info, but as far as I can tell they're still committed to getting this going (they've sunk enough cash into the project already!!) and it will be much cheaper than the JPP's.

Hey thanks for the info guys. Im back in the loop, for now...

does it scare you guys at all that the first prototype had those issues? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt that like a tire maker designing a new tire but it comes out square? ...or atlease enough to see my point?

anyway, im down for a set once they are perfected. Im glad someone is still on top of this.

UPDATE!!

The guys at my shop were in contact with Megan today, and they said that the design issues have been addressed and they're just waiting to complete the beta pieces for me. No timeline yet, but they're still committed.

To address your concerns Brad, I look at it as part of the R&D process. They actively sought out feedback, gave a prototype, and asked for my critique. Some of our suggestions were small things to help speed up install time, like the placement of the EGR and 02 sensor. Others were bigger, like the knock against the oil pan and the blown gaskets. I don't know what that means to be honest. I do know that R&D, trial and error, go into every product. Ask the CP-E guys how long it took to perfect their intake, I'm sure they had several different test models.

My perception of this is that Megan is committed to a job done correctly. I have firsthand experience with other products from them and know the quality. They don't want to release a product until they're convinced it works. Headers are a big deal, they're a pain to install on the Solara. I like knowing they're trying to do it right the first time, so I don't have to keep changing gaskets every time one blows.

Also to re-iterate, Megan doesn't pay me or my shop. They're not sponsoring me. I don't see a dime from the sales of this product. I'm giving my objective opinion. If it sucks, I'm not going to tell you guys to buy it. What I know is that when the first set were installed and the gaskets were intact, I felt a difference. The tone was better and pickup was smoother. I'm confident this system will work, it's only a matter of time before they get the right setup.s

As always, feel free to IM me at Grazi07 or PM me with any questions or concerns.

I have had a lot of bad experienced with Megan Racing headers. If its not yet been made, I would strongly suggest to them to use thicker gauge metal.

If had 2 350Z customers crack theirs in less than a year, and I've also seen their test pipes crack also.

Good to know, thanks for that info. Allegedly the next set are going out to me in a week or so, but I'll have a discussion about the guage of the material. The first set had some solid welds and looked to be pretty strong. The y pipe took a little beating to get into place, and it held its' integrity pretty well.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I will discuss it with them.

Once all the prototyping is done, and it turns to production will the headers come with new gaskets and a y pipe?
