Good work, but I have a few questions.

What brand exhaust is that?
What kind of metal is that? It doesn't look like stainless.
What size pipe? 3" or 4"?
Do you have headers too? JPP?
I see you have a plasmabooster. I've had mine for a couple of years. I'm not entirely sure if its beneficial. What are your thoughts?

Sorry for suck questions but why does your exhaust goes through that X connection then splits off again? Is that to keep that Y pipe suction thing going? And does it sound very beastly like muscle cars like that? Ive always wanted that SVT mustang gloggle sound.

Im very exited to see your car man. Its some very awesome stuff that I wish I could do.

Y pipes are only in single exhaust systems. Dual exhaust systems use either an X pipe or H pipe. The theory is that when gasses pass across one side it creates a vaccuum to scavange the gasses from other side of the system. It makes for a more effecient exhaust.

No. (Sorry) The X (or in some cases a H) would be too far back to promote scavenging.

Here's the skinny on a X in the exhaust. (Those who know me are going to have to trust me on this.)

The X does not actually cross exhaust flow. At low velocity flow, the gasses will mix and bleed off in both directions. At high flow, the two streams hit each other and increase backpressure. The flow actually doesn't cross, instead right side inlet goes out the right side leg of the X. The center becomes a high pressure zone. What's worse is that if the cross section of the center of the X isn't large enough (close equivelent to the area of the two pipe diameters combined) then you are restricting the exhaust. You'd be better off cutting out the X and welding in straight pipes. Acoustically, you get some sound reduction as frequencies mix. For a similar effect, add a balance tube between the two pipes.

There are some OE exhaust systems that use a H or and X and the misconception in the aftermarket is that performance improves. Reality is that it is for acoustic tuning. (Usually pass by requirements.) Here are some examples of systems our company has developedfor the OEs.

Second Gen Dodge Viper:
As you probably already know, DCX pushed hard to get the exhaust to exit in front of the rear wheels on the new Viper. This was driven by marketing, not for performance. The reality is that the right side exhaust runs along the door jam and crosses the car in front of the rear axle and exits out the left side of the car. The same on the left exhaust crossing over and exiting the right. Just in front of the axle, there is a small cross over tube between the right side and left. This improves the exhaust note and helps meet the vehicle pass by requirements.

The current Corvette Z06
This system is pretty straightforward. There's not much room under this car. The challenge is that we needed as much HP as possible but still had to meet legal requirements. To do this we did two things. 1) Of the two outlets on the muffler, one outlet shuts off with a vacuum accuated valve. This helps idle booming. 2) To meet vehicle pass by, we placed an X in the exhaust just like Greg's. I believe we actually sell this X in our aftermarket. (Greg, was that a Dynomax product that you used?) A H balance tube is actually better for flow but acoustic performance and the "hey that's cool looking" factor are not as high as the X.

There is some benefit to a balance tube. But it is very minimal and usually just for acoustics.

(Sorry for the long post.) Newbies probably won't read it all anyway.

Greg:

This is some pretty nice work.
What material did they use. (I can see that it is either painted or powder coated.) Just curious if all this custom work was done in stainless. Not that you have to worry about rust in AZ.

Also, what mufflers are you running?

I agree that the mufflers look to hang a little low. There's not much you can do. It could be tucked up but then you'd have to add a couple bends to the tail spouts.

Would you be willing to share how much the labor cost?

I might recommend using dual wall tips. Yours are single wall. Dual wall has a lower skin temp and can be installed a lot closer to the body kit than a single wall.

Here is a set I have waiting for the next custom exhaust project. It has perforations on the innerpipe and glasswool insulation between the inner layer and outer.

No round tips for this guy. More importantly I appreciate everyones voicing their opinion and I would respond but I leave today for a very exciting trip back to the help our soldiers fight the war on terror in the big sand box.

The car will be on hold until further notice. No time for games now.

Take care fellas.
