TRANNY SWAP QUESTION

TRANNY SWAP QUESTION

Postby agent007 » Mon Jun 26, 2006 9:08 am

now i have the v6 engine with the auto trans. i am looking to swap the tranny but i dont know what to swap it with. i was interested in the capabilities of manual in the auto trans like in the vehicles such as is 300 and so. i know that the is 300 is rear wheel drive but i dont know what front wheel drive vehicles i can mount up this kind of tranny with. so tell me, is this even possible. i have heard that the swap to stick is too much trouble. thanks for anyones help.

trouble = money. There's someone on this forum who swapped trannies, but I'm sure it wasn;t cheap. It'll cost you like $1000 plus the cost of the new trans. You'll want to get the manual trans from a 5 speed solara, it is the only FWD 1mz stick shift, i believe.

As far as having an "autostick" capability? any automatic transmission can be modified to have this capability, there are sites on the Web that have kits for it. How easy it is to install? I would want a transmission place to do it: have you ever seen the inside of an automatic transmission? ugh. too many gizmos and widgets.

I used a e153 tranny from a 2001 solara
Axles are needed as well
Tranny mount ad Bracket
5speed ECU at least for my car.
Shift cables
pedal kit
Flywheel
Chutch
Master cylinder
Slave cylinder
Shifter

I have a camry but it is a !MZ also. Honestly, I feel more torque now.

The valve body upgrade will help with firmer shifting, our cars were designed with comfort in mind and some people don't want to feel the transmission shift.
The shifttronic will let you decide when you want it to shift, overriding the computer controlled shifting.
I don't know if anybody has this.
I think Tony the Tiger uses IPT
