Exhaust modding and piping size questions

Ok, so just wondering who all on here has done exhaust work on their camry/solara and who noticed a gain or actually had evidence of increased performance (dyno graph or quarter mile time). I was looking to just do a catback for now and didnt know what the stock exhaust piping size was on my 99 v6 camry. I was looking to go 2.25 inch, but didnt know if stock exhaust was already that size. Dont know what catbacks are currently offered since I heard the Greddy unit was discontinued plus seems like most of what I've seen have honda style canister mufflers. Looking for a more subtle look. Thinking of just having a shop make me a custom setup and then buy a magnaflow or borla muffler and include it with the setup. I've heard a v6 camry with just a magnaflow muffler and it sounded very nice indeed.

the stock v6 setup is already 2.25, so you want to go 2.5. if you plan on going FI later on, then 3" would be a good idea now as well.

and yes, there doesn't seem to be any more bolt-on exhaust systems for the camry anymore. it's cheaper to get an exhaust shop to make you up a custom one anyway.

then just use any universal hi-flow cat/resonator/muffler that you like

So is 2.5 gonna make any difference or should i just leave it alone? Gotta be some restriction in the stock system im sure.

I left the stock piping on mine and cut off the stock pipe and added on a magnaflow, sounds really nice and I wouldnt have it any other way.

I think I may go ahead and get a custom 2.5 inch made. Where is the y pipe and what solution is there for this?

One other thing to add. Is the TRD exhaust for the 4th gen camries a catback or axle back setup? Description doesnt make it clear. Just talks about the trd muffler being higher flow but nothing about the rest of the system

Y-pipe: connects the front headers and the rear headers into a single pipe to the catalytic converter. The stock Y-pipe has at least 2, 90 degree bends in the piping, which is why Midias posted one of the custom Y-pipe's. It completely eliminates the bends altogether. I have one and it's great, definitely worth while if your doing exhaust work.

Hmm, so over 300 bucks for an axle back, I may just pass and have my friend's shop make me a custom catback setup. Ok, so Y pipe was what I was thinking but prob. wont replace that till I do headers after the SC install, which wont be for quite some time, so I think I'll be content with a custom 2.5 catback with a magnaflow muffler. By the way, the Solara does sound nice as hell in those vids.
