Which should I get: Alarm or just Keyless Entry

Which should I get: Alarm or just Keyless Entry

Trying to decide which to add to my '02 SE. I don't have the skills to install it myself and I don't want to trust the car to Best Buy or Circuit City so I've just shopped at places like Car Toys or Tweeter.

I can add keyless entry for about $140, that would be the Python 440HP system. Another $40 on top of that will get me remote trunk pop. Seems like a decent little system.

For an alarm I'm looking at the Python 460HP. The alarm is $229 and adding keyless entry would be another $55 on top of that.

I not planning to install anything in the car that would grab a thief's attention, gonna stick with the JBL stereo and won't be installing any video gear, etc.

If this car had come with keyless entry I wouldn't even be considering an alarm, but as long as I'm getting this done I'm thinking maybe I should do it right and put an alarm in there.

Just wanted to get any thoughts you guys might have on this - I'd love to hear any recommendations on other alarms to look at in this price range.

Thanks

Surprised me too, but keyless entry wasn't standard on the '02 SE's. This was a base SE with the JBL Stereo, the Appearance Package and a Rear Spoiler as the only options.

Those were my options... alloys, spoiler, and JBL. Maybe the packages vary from place to place? =\ I thought that package had the Keyless.

Any chance my car has keyless and the dealership just didn't know or didn't give me the remotes? Any way to tell?

Yeah, you should check with them. Mine is a "base" too but with Sport Package added on it. But even without the package, I would sitll have the keyless entry and remote trunk release.

Either the dealer is so clueless or they just want you to pay up for something you should or already have.

Check toyota.com for more details about the standard base 02 SE.

sure, send me your VIN (PM please) and i'll check if you car has keyless or not.
we've gone through this with several other cars and none of them had keyless.

You should go back to the dealer and tell them!! The 2 remotes are included with the car... since it's installed on it!! Those bastards!!

Dave,

How exactly should I phrase this when I tell them I think the car has keyless entry? I don't want to get you in trouble so tell me the best way to tell them when I drop by tomorrow.

Thanks

I think you should report this scam to BBB or Toyota or something.

It was a used car so I don't know what they are legally liable for. Keyless entry is not listed on the list of features they had posted on the window. I asked the salesman point-blank if the car had keyless entry or an alarm and he looked at the list and said no.

I just don't want to sound like an idiot when I go to the dealership: "Some guy on the internet said I have keyless entry, give me the damn remotes, OK?"

I'd like to say something like: "A friend of mine checked my VIN# and it showed that I should have keyless entry, why wasn't I told this when I purchased the vehicle?"

Yeah. It's not your fault at all. The way I see it, you would only be paying for the remote control ;)
Your car has it already.
