turbo/tranny question

turbo/tranny question

Postby ronin » Thu Jul 10, 2003 10:32 am

how much hp can the auto tranny from the '00 4cyl solara take? is there a ball park frigure. also, the TC and VC from rod millen, would these improve the amount of power the tranny is capable of taking? im looking at getting a turbo kit for the 5S-FE and maybe installing a 50 shot of juice.

i was looking at this kit and wondering opinions.

for the intercooler, i wanted to run something small and was thinking about either the MKIV SMIC, or the VR-4 SMIC.

my main question is, what should i do/need to do to ensure im not pushing the car because i blew the tranny.

also, is anyone knows of any other turbo kits for the 5S-FE that works on our cars, please let me know.
thanks

I hate to say it but you are better off looking for a new car.

Joseph has but a turbo in but not without a lot of work and money

I would go look at the Ripp Mods supercharger. It's a very complete system and affordably price, especially considering the reputation Ripp Mods has established. A company called Shiftgate is working on a 5S turbo kit also. There has been a lot of discussion on Toyota Nation about 5S building, as more of their members seem to be 5S-FE powered. I have read that the 5S transmission is ok up to 200whp, but I personally cannot endorse that claim. Also, I agree with Yanks, if you want a wicked fast car you have the wrong motor / car. Don’t get me wrong, I firmly believe in the 5S-FE motor, but to make it fast it cost a lot, and I mean a lot of money. Just for the super charger kit you are looking at nearly 4grand. I am hoping to take this step in the fall, as it will effectively double the amount of power getting to the wheels.

A few links for you:

Hope these help.
Let's just pretend I didn't grow up, or you're going to be terribly disappointed.

a automatic solara with 5SFE want 250/300 on the wheel? IMPOSSIBLE.... well it could be possible, but your car wont last long. My turbo project still in progress because i ran out money.

The best management is Greddy E-manage that controll your whole fuel map and timing. It almost function as well as stand alone, but everything add up is close to 1000 dollars. I had everything already but no time/money to install it.

you can check out my turbo here

It's incomplete and so far i had spend close to $5400 on turbo already
