Need help with HID Problem!

Need help with HID Problem!

Postby *Charinee* » Thu Sep 04, 2003 12:09 pm

I had the HID installed previouly and I took them out because one of the ballast was broken. After a week, I got a new ballast and today I have the shop re-installed the HID. Now the problem is that the HID stay on all the times without me turning them on...u know turn the switch by the steering wheel which it wasn't happened before when I had them installed the first time. Both the DRL (gray plug) and the auto light sensor (the dome thingy on passenger windshield) were disconnected, and the headlights are still on at all times. We try took out the fuse and everything but nothing seems to matter, the darn headlights are still on. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Can someone help me, please? I'm so frustrated :(

BTW, does people who has HID on their car has the same problem or is it just me

check the wiring, when i installed mine i had to get spec wires in the corect way. if it in wrong they can cuase the hid to run constant like in your case. best bet is to find the wiring diagram and make they are in the right socket.

but it can be diff for yours, i have a 2002 and my headlights are the 9006. i haven't had any problems with mine so far.

Good luck

When you say they're constantly on...do you mean everysecond of the day? Or just when the car is on?

What kind of HID lights are those? Some kits get hooked up right to your existing head light outputs, and some just use the outputs to turn on a relay. If you got the second, check the relays, they sometimes get stuck. Its also possible they shorted out the curcuit and now its stuck in the open position.

I've herad this problem before, you can't let any metal on the ballast touch metal on the car, something about that causes the HIDs to be on when the DRLs are on even if you disconnect the DRL. You either need a plastic mounting case or rig something up.

I have the same problem with just stock headlights. Mine are on all the time, like 24/7. I unplug the main relay to turn them off and on. Any ideas?

Yeah I've got the same problem too. I don't want to burn my HIDs prematurely.

Did you mess with the running lights control module or disconnect the sensor on the right side of dash? I think that either the switch is bad, something in the fuse box, like the relay is faulty, or most likely your running lights control module is bad. Its located to the left of the radio behind the dashboard. I disconnected mine, but had to do some rewiring because the hand brake wire loops thru it, and if you just unplug it, the dash indicator of emergency brake will not work.

also if i failed to mention our stock headlight come with only a 10amp fuse, that needs to be upgraded to 20 amp. the newer 2002-2003 models come stock with 20amp but i know sure about the 99-01 solara. check the fuse in the engine bay next to the battery. that can cause the relay not to function right if thats the case.

I'll try the running light relay then, I thought that's what it was at after a while, I just couldn't find it. If it works, i'll let ya know.

I got the problem fixed by re-mounting the ballast. Thanks for all the helpful advice. I post some pix of where I mount them at as requested by someone on this board...you know who you are
