Getting headlights to turn off

Postby kubi » Sun Oct 19, 2003 7:48 pm

Well I got my alarm installed today and part of the remote start system keeps the car on when you take the key out until you close the door, then once you close the driver's door the car shuts off. Now the problem with this is that my headlights don't automatically turn off since the car is still running. Am I just going to have to manually turn my headlights on and off now or can anyone come up with a way around that?

How hard is it to turn off your headlights before closing the door?

It's not, but I haven't done it since I got this car since they turn themselves off :) Probably should just do it though so my headlights don't come on when I remote start, heh.

do you turn on the lights manually when you drive? i don't. the feature you are talking about sounds like the "convenience ignition" feature or somethin' like that. it's where you can leave the car running for a few moments w/o the key in moments when you're gonna just "run in and run out" somewhere...like a convenience store!

i just use it to let my car cool down before i turn it off. and my alarm shuts EVERYTHING off. i didn't have to wire anything to the headlights from the alarm, so maybe that's what the alarm place did to yours. ask them to re-wire it correctly.

no, i do not turn my headlights on manually, but i have to now.

anyway, the reason it stays running is to check and make sure the car can be remote started, since it's a manual transmission it has to be sure the car isn't in gear.

anyway i guess i'll check back with the installer, thanks!
