Talk about aftermarket Toyota Solara Gen 1-1.5 upgrades.

225/50/18?

No, you'd be 4.6% slower than stock, meaning the wheel would be bigger in diameter. 3% is the universal allowable, but I would allow +- 1.5%. Dont do it, theres a reason most 18" riders use 225/40.

And man you should of gone 19"... what were u thinking! :P

Yes, for a daily driver, you would especially not want to adjust to total diameter of the aftermarket wheel and tire from the stock wheel and tire. If you do, you will interfere with the transmission's shift points (leading to eventual failure), ABS malfunction as the wheel size is different than what the ABS is programmed to (I dont have to describe what could happen if your ABS failed in a situation while daily driving), along with many other things involved with the suspension. Oh yeah, and you'll def rub.

If 16s were fine, then I suggest looking for some nice 16s to keep the stock rubber you had and apparently need. Or maybe some 17s would do fine. 18s will bend as much as 19s would, so I dont see the big deal there. Look into forged rims. Sorry bro, not much else I can suggest. :(

hmm...

if the roads require you to use 50 series tires, then go for 17's at biggest.

Take heed on TRDMole177's advise. The 18s with those tire size are too big in diameter and will offset your speedometer.

Check out this site, it really helped me chose the right tires and wheel sizes.http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

For instance:
Stock tire: 215/55/17 the diameter is 26.3
New tire: 245/35/20 the diameter is 26.8

That calculation stated that I would be 1 miles faster than what my speedometer was reading. However, I checked it and it's readin' correctly.

GL and hope this helped.

Just curious, does anyone know what size tires came on the TRD rims(TSW Revo)? Thanks

235/40/18 is closer to stock diameter than 225/40/18. I will soon be switching over to the 235's

i went with 225/40/18 and was ok.... bit if you can fit 235 nicely thats what i would go for.. not 225..
