ehhhh...any suggestions on what could have gone wrong ?

Absolutely nothing. Radar detectors detect the cop's radar when they have it on. If they don't, well then obviously it won't detect anything. Radar detectors will not always save you so please learn how to use it and how to read its signals. Do NOT assume it will go off everytime there is a cop around because it will not. Sometimes you may even notice a cop shooting his/her laser at you and the radar still won't go off, that is probably because they either suck at their aiming or they are aiming at your tires and not drectly to your radar.

of course this is a free country (sort of speak) and you can do whatever you want, but I would strongly suggest you don't do that because it will definitely be a waste of money.

Yeah most cops aim for the body of the car.
It won't go off unless they have it one.
I've picked up airpost security once, drivin' on the outskirts of the airport, and my Bel 985 read "RADAR" and yellin' it to me, i was only goin' the speed limit.
But i know he was aipport security and then he followed me all the way to Newcastle [another little city we have].

Some radar detectors also go off when your driving next to those big rig 18 wheelers, along with others that have a radar detector driving somewhere around you that it picks up the signals.
