LSD on Auto Solara

Thanks for the info. I have a mechanic that looks like a bald Gomer Pyle but he knows his stuff and does a good job. No Toyota service for me.

Yes, I did, Brandon. To be fair to them, they have been very helpful in trying to diagnose the problem. Unfortunately, it has meant a lot of time hanging around their shop while they work on it. Originally, they thought it was a problem with the front swaybar, but after swapping the OE back in for the Whiteline, the sound was still there. Same result when they thought it was the struts. All I can say is that I did not have that sound before they did the work on the car, so it must have something to do with what they did. I'll probably be back down there this week. Strangely enough, with all of the rain, the sound has disappeared, at least for now. I'm baffled.

I thought lsd's were only made for manual transmissions until fairly recently. We also own a G35, so I keep up with those online forums, too. I recently read that there is an lsd available for the G35 with an auto tranny. I haven't heard of one being available for the Camry/Solara platform, though.

That's true, but what they were discussing on the G35 forum were real aftermarket lsd's.

BogeyMan, what is "FR"?

There are LSDs for front wheel drive automatics. I just can't find one for our car. If anyone finds one, let us know. -JoeB

Before you worry about LSD, first you should be more realistic. Sell the I4 and get a v6 if you want to mod

wow you want 300 hp with a I4 good luck hope you got a lot of $$ to burn its cheaper and easier for a civic I4 to get 300 hp then to get a solara I4 300 hp

I agree with the last couple of posts. I've had to spend a lot of time and go through a lot of frustration to get over 300 hp (flywheel) out of my V6. Personally, I don't feel it's worth the aggravation, and I would never do this again on a car that wasn't designed to be a performance car. To try to accomplish this with the I4 really seems like an exercise in futility. If you think that you'll truly be happy with this car at 300 hp, then go for it and good luck to you. My advice would be to read through all the problems that people have experienced in trying to maximize power on this car before you do anything.

nah hehe you probably have the most powerful V6 AT right now on this planet.

But if you actually convert it to manual, you will find it much more worthwhile (the shorter gear ratio and a LSD will help your car perform much better than a built Torque Converter). It's actually not as expensive as most people think...

http://tt-cc.com/ratko/swap/index.html

Think about it, it's probably well within your budget.

I just don't want to go through the hassle of making a car which wasn't meant to be a high performance car into something much better performance-wise. After test-driving a Mini Cooper S, I know I'd never be able to make the Solara as nimble. After sitting in a Corvette C5, I know I will never be able to make the Solara accelerate as fast without costing an arm and a leg.

Anyways, I modify the car so that I can drive a bit harder on the street.
