Check the mounting plates. I had a bolt loosen and make a lot of noise on mine. The noise was really loud when I ran the AC. I took it to Toyota of Concord,NC(www.toyotaparts4u.com). They hooked me up !! Replaced the bolt and made sure all the other bolts were buttoned down.

Oh yeah I didnt buy it from them and they didnt even install it.

S/C rattle

Postby jim@foreignaffairs » Thu Jun 10, 2004 9:18 am

I found the solution to the S/C rattle common to our application heard especially at idle. I replaced the mineral oil used in the nose gear chamber with synthetic gear oil. It made it much more quiet, eliminated the rattle completely. Don't over fill, fluid level should be only 1/2 way up the chamber.

Just a little off topic, but I don't get much rattle from my s/c, I get it from my CAI extension! LOL! That damn thing rattles at idle or when accelerating from a stop. I'm gonna have to find a way to secure by the filter.

Jim,
is this easily done? where is the nose gear chamber? and what brand of synthetic gear oil (at waht weight) did you use?

Thanks

The rattle is supposed to be there but not too loud. It's due to the fact that the Eaton Blower uses straight gears in the nose unit. Mine was louder initially and before I did an oil change. The Magnusson oil change kit I ordered uses synthetic oil from a Pontiac SC application. Like Jim said it quiets it down pretty good but it won't totally eliminate the noise. In fact what I hear mostly now is the impellor blades turning.
