I wouldn't recommend lowering your car and not changing the struts. I mean you can, But I wouldn't seeing that you have over 100k miles on your car and you are still on the OEM struts.
I would get the springs and strut combo together and do the install all at once. Its going to save you more money in the long run.
You can get Tein Springs for about $150.00 on ebay. Don't worry about the fakes they never made the fake teins for the solara. Not enough demand for them to make it for our cars. The fake was more pron to the honda owners.
You can the TRD strut from Mark (rear at least) or get a set of Tokicos for under $400.00 or KYB for under $300.00.
Hope this helps. I've learned if you are going to do something make sure you do it right the first time. I've learn from experience that you will spend more money going cheap first then paying to fix it later downt he line or even just to upgrade in the future.

Why?
I'm not asking to be an a$$. I really want to know why. Are Tein coilovers better?

As for JIC vs. Tein... well it depends what you want it for... JIC are more performace oriented with stiffer spring rates vs. the Teins. I am personally going with the Teins because I do not want a super stiff ride and the Teins have all of the functionality I will ever need (and the added bonus of being about 600 dollars cheaper!)
