A-Pillar and Gauges

Postby Guest » Sun May 04, 2003 4:05 pm

I've decieded to buy the Autometer (carbon fiber) boost and A/F gauges.

I've checked around for the price and the best i got so far is

26.08 - Duel Pillar
63.47 - A/F gauge
55.96 - Boost gauge

if u guys are getting it cheaper anywhere else please let me know, thank you.

I'm willing to pay more for the gages. I really want quality, usability and style. Anybody have any other recommendations? It sounds like the Autometer gages don't fit exactly right, the piller doesn't come in the right color and needs to be sprayed and the gages aren't of the correct scale. -Joe

Ummm, this may sound kinda weird but I can't find a Boost gauge on line for the solara. Where did those of you that got the TRD boost gauge for the solara get it from?

Can I use the automoter single gauge pod for the tundra TRD boost gauge, or do I need to somehow get the TRD tundra gauge pod that comes with the gauge to fit.

Yes you can use the autometer single gauge pod for the trd boost gauge, i bought the autometer single and double gauge pods and when i got the trd boost gauge, and the single gauge pod that came with that is very similar to the autometer, only difference was of course it's made for a tundra so it was formed for a tundra, and it was a little thicker and shinier.

I'm pretty sure that a 3 gauge pod is not available for the solara. About where people are buying their gauges/pods, www.egauges.com is where i bought mine and where others have gotten theirs, they seem to be the cheapest place.

With the autometer boost gauge, will it just read how much boost my supercharger is doin? Or will it have the completle engine boost with teh s\c boost... like the compression boost w\ the s\c boost?
And what spread from 0-whatever are you having the boost gauge going from? like from 0-15psi or 0-30? And are people hooking up mechanical or electical gauges?

Compression is different than boost. Since the autometer taps the SC it will read how much boost the supercharger is doing.

Thanks for your posts and information. I just ordered the 2 gauge pod for the pillar, a boost gauge and a EGT Pyrometer. I got it from http://www.egauges.com/ for a GREAT price! The people there were very helpful, knowlegable and friendly also.

I was going to get the Air/Fuel gauge but because of the experiences of others here, I decided on the EGT gauge instead although I knew nothing about them. I called and talked to an Autometer rep who explained it to me and made the recommendation to go with the electrical full sweep gauges. These gauges are more accurate than the others. He also recommended I go with the street series EGT rather than the one that requires the thermocouple sensor. He said the thermocouple sensor will give quicker temperature changes but will not last as long for a street application. The other nice thing was in the Full Sweep Electrical line, they have a boost gauge that has a range of 30in-hg-15psi. I like that much better than the ones that go up to 20-30psi. This way it gives more room than the TRD gauge on the vacuum side and more boost resolution than the other autometer gauges, almost as much as the TRD gauge.

4343 EGT Street Series Pyrometer w/probe + 8' wire = $105
4376 Boost 30in-hg/15PSI w/sender + T-fitting = $187

For those like me that are thinking what is a EGT gauge and how does it work, I'll share my new found knowledge. I was smart enough to figure out that I would be monitoring the exhaust gas temperature (it's in the name). Other than that, I knew little. A small temperature probe is tapped into the exhaust to record the temperature. As the car runs too lean (too much air) the temperature of the exhaust gas goes up and as it runs too rich (too much gas) the temperature goes down. There is a normal operating temperature for each car and depending on the mods especially forced air, you use the temperature range to tell when your air/fuel mixture is running to rich or lean. Hope it helps, -JoeB
