silverstars duller

Postby smacd11 » Thu Jul 08, 2004 1:58 am

I installed Silverstar headlights and foglights in December. I replaced one headlight in February when it burned out and then the other 2 weeks later. So far they seem to be ok but tonight one of my foglights burned out  . I'm very dissapointed in the life of these lights - good thing for the one year warranty. Now, if I could only remember where I put the reciept :-?

Make sure you dont handle the bulb by its glass part. Oils from your hands, not matter how clean they are, will get on the glass. It will become superheated when the bulb turns on and cause the life to shorten considerably.

9006s (fogs) are about 10% brighter than 9003s (Gen1 headlight) in low beam.

Ive heard they die within a year with DRL on, or between 1-2 years with DRL off, but Ive only had mine about 7 months so I cant say if theyll last that long. I think they wont though since they are tinted bulbs.

I also hear the H4 are brighter than 9003s, but Sylvania specs them exactly the same. Maybe its the bulb thats different and not the filament thats brighter?

If it is brighter, what is stopping someone from putting an H4 in a 9003 socket? I have never seen an H4 before.

Nothing. The fitment is exactly the same as far as I know, and Silverstars come in H4 and 9003. I still dont think the H4s are in fact brighter than the 9003s though. What I think is that the H4 is just the euro specification for the 9003 American spec, and its the same exact bulb, brightness and all.

How could you not have seen an H4 bulb before? The Solaras use an H4 type bulb for the headlights . . . or have I been taking crazy pills? :o

I am using 9003's. H4's are the same shape as 9003's. I was confused if there was a physical difference in the construction, glass or filament that allegedly makes the H4's brighter. Check out the previous posts.
