Which should I get: Alarm or just Keyless Entry

Your car has it already.

For which they'll probably want something ridiculous like $100 or more. The bottom line in my mind is that I should have received them when I purchased the car.

One question - I could be wrong but I thought I had read that if you had keyless entry your key would have a chip in it. I have a fairly thin key that appears to have no chip. Am I off on a tangent here or does this mean anything?

Rectangular keybase or triangular? Triangular would be the keybase with a chip.

Just tell them you had a VIN check and the car has factory keyless. Explain that you didnt get the remotes at the time of purchase and for them to run the VIN number themselves so that they can check it. They should give it to you for free since it was included w/ the vehicle...

If you end up paying for them... file a complaint... that usually gets you your $130 remote... =x

It's like $70 to program a remote you already have... around $130 for a new remote... frigging eh!!

several things could happen:
A. (preferred) they could give you 2 remotes.
2. they could not give you the remotes since (according to their window sticker) the car does not have keyless entry hence you didn't pay for keyless entry or remotes when you bought the vehicle.
D. they could charge you for the remotes (~$130 each), but if they do that, you should be able to haggle them for free programming, its not that hard dammit!

(i'm not sure if you know this) but that car was owned by enterprise at one point in time. at the point of sale, enterprise may not have given the dealership the remotes. if they end up not giving it to you, keep in mind that you didn't pay for it and basically pulled a fast one on them......good job!! you can always get the remotes on ebay cheap and program them yourself.

Thanks for the info Dave. I knew it had been a rental car, I told them I wouldn't even initial my opening offer until I saw a copy of the CarFax report. The rental car thing scared me a bit at first, but a friend of mine who buys/sells used cars at auctions told me that it meant that the car had at least been well maintained as far as oil changes, etc. He's bought several rental cars and had good luck with them, he just said to take it for a long test drive and give everything a good once over.

Went by the dealership after work - they gave me a remote with little or no hassle. Told me they'd have another one ready when I pick up my plates next week.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

That's really cool man. I'm glad it went well. Did they bother to explain why they wanted to sell you what you already had?
